As a result of the 2014 shooting of unarmed FAMU football player Jonathan Ferrell by a Charlotte Police Officer, I am petitioning the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) to move its 2014 tournament out of Charlotte, N.C. The CIAA is the oldest of the 4 HBCU athletic conferences in the United States and generated $47.17 million dollars in economic impact and $29.86 million in direct spending in Charlotte, N.C. during their 2013 CIAA Tournament. The CIAA tournament is the third most attended basketball tournament among all NCAA divisions.
