To Eli Pariser, MoveOn.org Executive Director:

With more than 3 million members, MoveOn plays a vital role not only in shaping public policy, but in educating the American public about the most important political issues of the day. With this power comes a responsibility to engage with these issues in as forthright a manner as possible.

Until now, MoveOn has declined to call for the impeachment of George W. Bush or Dick Cheney, citing a purported lack of interest among its membership. But, as many frustrated members have pointed out, they have not been asked. It has recently come to light that MoveOn is quietly conducting an online poll on the question among a small group of its members. We applaud this encouraging first step but hope that MoveOn will go further by soliciting feedback from its entire membership. When asked why the poll was not taken of all members, a MoveOn organizer explained:

Rarely do we send out a survey like this to the whole membership (we work very hard to send no more than one email to our members per day; the more they receive the less likely they are to open any of them, there is also an issue of bandwidth capabilities). We generally only do that when we have to act immediately or when we are acting on very specific legislation.

We feel confident that the membership of MoveOn will forgive the organization a single e-mail about a question of such urgency and importance. And we would remind MoveOn that specific legislation on impeachment already exists. H Res 333, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), and cosponsored by Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) and Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-IL) calls for the impeachment of Vice-President Cheney on the grounds that he manipulated intelligence "to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq."

Few will dispute that lying the nation into a disastrous war that has claimed the lives of more than 3,000 Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis rises to the level of "high crimes and misdemeanors" and that these allegations merit serious examination by Congress. On April 28, 2007, Americans in more than 125 locations around the country took to the streets to demonstrate their support for impeachment. That same weekend, delegates to the annual convention of the California Democratic Party, the largest state chapter of the Democratic Party, overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney. Two days later, speaking on NPR, leading antiwar Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) pointedly said that impeachment was "on the table" in Congress.

The time has come for the Bush administration to be held accountable. We respectfully urge MoveOn to exercise leadership on the question of impeachment and to begin an open dialogue with its members about the issue. As MoveOn likes to say, "Every member has a voice."

201 anitasimonsI am an active moveon member who has participated with many events in my home. I urge moveon to include ALL of its members when polling all issues.
202 PhyllisEvans DeGenaroWhite PlainsNYThe Bush Administration has more thugs than most prisons. How many crimes will they commit against the people of this nation and against the world before we try to stop them? Come on MoveOn!
203 AndrewJacobsenApache JunctionAZThe time is long past that Bush and Cheney be impeached for war crimes, crimes against humanity and the felonies they have committed in office. They still lie to us on a daily basis.
204 ReginaFerreraI cannot beleive anyone would not want Bush impeached.
205 RobertPalmerRosemountMNI sign this petition as a member of Move On and a supporter of many of the petition originators. I have voted in the poll regarding Impeachment myself, however I do not see any equity in not offering this vehicle of expression to all members of Move On.

207 PeterHollingsAtlantaGAAny elected Congressman who fails to support bills of impeachment against all those officials who have violated the Constitution and law is himself failing his oath to defend the Constitution. The lawbreaking by this administration has become rampant, is a clear and present danger, and it must be stopped. Furthermore, after trials, we must assure that those guilty are punished so as to deter these crimes in the future.
208 KathleenPercyNewcastleCAOut of Iraq NOW, then Impeach Cheney
209 TonyMendolaNew YorkNYAnd don't forget the other, no less treasonous co-conspirators, Rice, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Rove -- the whole lot of them.

220 DaphneBraswellForest CityNCI applaud MoveOn for providing a platform from which "we the people" can be heard. It is time to take the next step toward holding this administration accountable. Let every member's voice be heard on the call to impeach this administration beginning with Cheney so our nation can begin the process of healing.
221 PatHayesUpper DarbyPAIn in the impeachment issue, we need to go after Cheney first and then Bush. We do not want Cheney in official power at all...he already is runny the show behind the scene.
222 angelaguzmanardenNCIMPEACH justice should be served. I voted for change for justice and all i see is talk. we are in the same position now as we were in 2006

224 chriszimmerClevelandOHThis administration has made me ashamed to be an American. If bush/cheney and all others who have been complicit in the corruption are not removed from office, it will be a very sad day for this country. The entire world is watching and wondering why impeachment has been started already. I demand impeachment now. If for nothing else but to gain back a small amount of respect in the global community.

228 BarbaraStewartNYCNYA debate about the possible grounds that exist for impeachment proceedings is LONG overdue!!!! Bush has gotten away with murder with regard to his responsibilities to uphold the Constitution and tell the truth to his employers - the American people.

233 ScottGriffithFranktownCOThe current administration is a perfect example of the intended purpose of impeachment. Corrupt beyond words, answerable to no one, and firmly convinced that the Constitution and the rule of law does not bear on their activities. Impeachment is not merely necessary, it is in fact absolutely essential if we are to set a precedent that this sort of gutting of our most hallowed principles must not be let stand.
234 Jan and LynnPizzoORThis is the most important political action since Watergate. If we want our Constitution to mean something in the years to come, we must act now before it is too late.

237 KristyHarmsLakevilleMNThe crimes committed by George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and company far exceed the lies about an adult, consentual act that lead to the impeachement of Bill Clinton. It's past time to hold this Administration accountable for lies, corruption and violation of the Constitutional Rights of the American people. We're the boss - they're our employees, and they should be fired!
238 TimothyHarlineSilver SpringMDMoveOn was FOUNDED to avoid a frivolous impeachment. Because it would hamper a good president and weaken recourse vs a true criminal. We now have the true criminal. Bush makes NIXON look good. Impeach.
239 AnonymousAnonymousChelmsfordMAThis is long overdue. The President's disregard of the Constitution poses a greater threat to our freedom and democracy than any terrorists.

248 AnonymousAnonymousI'm tired of my family being torn apart by my husband going to Iraq every other year.
249 ChristopherLynchJacksonvilleFLIt would be criminal to let the administration walk away from this mess. We can't allow what has happened to our country during this administration to be precedent for future corruption.
250 AnonymousAnonymousIt's time. This is what impeachment was made for.
