To Eli Pariser, MoveOn.org Executive Director:

With more than 3 million members, MoveOn plays a vital role not only in shaping public policy, but in educating the American public about the most important political issues of the day. With this power comes a responsibility to engage with these issues in as forthright a manner as possible.

Until now, MoveOn has declined to call for the impeachment of George W. Bush or Dick Cheney, citing a purported lack of interest among its membership. But, as many frustrated members have pointed out, they have not been asked. It has recently come to light that MoveOn is quietly conducting an online poll on the question among a small group of its members. We applaud this encouraging first step but hope that MoveOn will go further by soliciting feedback from its entire membership. When asked why the poll was not taken of all members, a MoveOn organizer explained:

Rarely do we send out a survey like this to the whole membership (we work very hard to send no more than one email to our members per day; the more they receive the less likely they are to open any of them, there is also an issue of bandwidth capabilities). We generally only do that when we have to act immediately or when we are acting on very specific legislation.

We feel confident that the membership of MoveOn will forgive the organization a single e-mail about a question of such urgency and importance. And we would remind MoveOn that specific legislation on impeachment already exists. H Res 333, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), and cosponsored by Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) and Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-IL) calls for the impeachment of Vice-President Cheney on the grounds that he manipulated intelligence "to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq."

Few will dispute that lying the nation into a disastrous war that has claimed the lives of more than 3,000 Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis rises to the level of "high crimes and misdemeanors" and that these allegations merit serious examination by Congress. On April 28, 2007, Americans in more than 125 locations around the country took to the streets to demonstrate their support for impeachment. That same weekend, delegates to the annual convention of the California Democratic Party, the largest state chapter of the Democratic Party, overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney. Two days later, speaking on NPR, leading antiwar Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) pointedly said that impeachment was "on the table" in Congress.

The time has come for the Bush administration to be held accountable. We respectfully urge MoveOn to exercise leadership on the question of impeachment and to begin an open dialogue with its members about the issue. As MoveOn likes to say, "Every member has a voice."

2252 PatrickDouglasSan FranciscoCAThe fact that MoveOn.Org needs to be goaded into taking up this issue (the actual root solution to all issues they do take up) calls MoveOn's liberal credentials into question.
2253 RaelNidess, M.D.MarshallTXWhat was the poll result? I voted yes, let's impeach the bastard(s)!
2254 Carlos J.EchevarriaEl SegundoCAPlease, for the love of God, support this movement of impeaching these bastards out of office! For seven years this country has agonized over the phoniness and criminal hypocrisy of an administration that has become nothing but terrorists hijacking the very institution that promotes freedom and liberty for all of us as well as allowing these assholes to even put their "devil's horns" into the presidential election ring back in 2000! Yet they had the audacity to rig and steal their way into OUR White House and created so much damage to us and the world that it will take a generation or so to re-build America's standing throughout the world! Please, support the impeachment movement!

2259 AudreBrokesWynnewoodPAPersonal (even handwritten) letters importuning individual senators and congresspeople (of BOTH parties) are among the most effective means of generating initial attention. Let's (also!) do it the old-school way -- kind of a pain, but well worth the effort.
2260 SibylWalskiWeedCAI cannot understand why we have not impeached these fascist criminals up until now. With an approval rating in the 20's, because even Republicans can see we have been hijacked, let's throw these arrogant webspinners off the ship of state.

2269 LindaBoydClyde HillWAIf MoveOn fails to support impeachment in a decisive and timely manner it will cease to be a relevant organization. There can be no half measures to support the US Constitution and our system of government. Failure to act now would be a betrayal of MoveOn's membership. I urge MoveOn to immediately take up the most important item on our national agenda. Impeachment is our most effective tool against tyranny, we must use it. There is no time to lose.

2283 AnonymousAnonymousSeasideCAJust what outrage must a selceted administration commit before you engage the i word ? How can you compare Bill Clinton lying about a blowjob in same breath as the chimps lies of wmds phantom Iraqi nuclear bombs Iraq's false ties to terrorist groups straight out of slick dick of halliburton cheneys lie machine office of special planning what a pair of corporate puppets, 750,000 iraqis 7000 americans murdered for profit i think they are low balling us on the american death count our children die to assure them handsome stolen war booty this must end now boy do these guys hate our brave american boys and girls war predicated upon preconceived whoppers send the chimp and sneering diabolical dick to fight since they both ran as yellow streaked cowards during the vietnam era then we shall see just how long noble wars last!
2284 DaleThorupCanon CityCOLike many Americans, I believe that 911 and the resultant War in Iraq are the greatest fraud perpetrated upon the American public since the Kennedy assassination and Viet Nam War. All were accomplished to perpetuate and proliferate the corporate war-machine-for-profit and interests of wealthy friends of the respectve Administrations. President Eisenhower first warned Americans about the threat of the corporate-war-machine-for-profit, which he claimed pervaded every level of government, in January of 1960 shortly before leaving office. Ending our hypocritical foreign policy and involvement in Iraq, border security, illegal immigration, unfair trade agreements, and global warming are some of the imminent threats to our nation and in some cases the World. If we are to save humanity here and abroad, impeachment is an absolute necessity now.
2285 AnonymousAnonymousPortlandORThey have committed treason and the penalty for treason is still the firing squad or hanging!!!

2289 TimJenningsKansas CityMOI'm convinced that the Bush administration has committed impeachable acts. Truly impeachable, not the entrapment kind of gotcha stuff that Clinton was caught up in but purposeful misdeeds.
2290 MariBlomeEl CerritoCADear MoveOn, It's absolutely apalling that you have not initiated an effort to get your membership to demand Congress begin the impeachment process. If George Bush and Dick Cheney can't be impeached for all of the horrendous crimes against humanity that they havet orchestrated and for all the violations against our Constitutional rights that they have bcommitted.....well then, there isn't much left of our democracy. Please do not disillusion your membership any longer....IMPEACH NOW!
2291 BeverlySinesLet's do it while we still can. Later may be too late.
2292 WalterCampWillitsCAThe Emperor hasn't had any clothes on for so long now: I can't believe only 2291 have signed up to impeach. Something MUST be done about this worst administration in history.
2293 mary-annfreirared bluffCASince Eli became AIPAC-Pelosi's lapdog, MANY have unsubbed from MoveOn.org! It is further proof of MoveOn's betrayal of the membership that they ONLY POLLED THOSE MEMBERS WHOM THEY 'CHOSE' to. Don't we have a RIGHT to expect an HONEST "poll" from MoveOn, NOT just another political SPIN-POLL ? I guess sucess like MoveOn had goes to the head, leaving the founders no better than the politicians they vowed to oppose. So much for "we the people".
