If you live on Mount Pleasant Road or Hanover Road, it is extremely unlikely that your child will be able to get a place at your local School, Malorees infant school. This is extremely unfair as Mount Pleasant road is actually only 2 streets away from from us and only 300 meters or so in actual measured distance (as the crow flies) on a map. If you were to live in any other borough of London especially all our neighbouring boroughs this would be how the disance from these schools to your house would be measured. However unfortunately for those of us living on these 2 streets the distance is measured by roads & public pathways. Every year, the same issues keep arising, where do our children go to school. It is a councils responsibility to have our children schooled in a school that is local to us, however the children on our street very rarely get into our local school and will not even get into there 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice of schools, as there are no other local schools near us. Further more children on this street are only place in a school after the official year has started. Usualy at a school that is a very long distance away, therefore requiring them to be transported by car or other means, which also goes against the main objectives of the council which is to encourage children to be walking to school, which is less than a ten minute walk from these streets to Malorees.
