Our son is looking forward to joining next year when he gets into 7th grade. We hope and pray more will join and that our school distrist will also give support for this great program to go on for many years to come. Thank you, Wendy SpencerFlag

As a matter of fact, I can name a boat load of athletes that have never done a thing, in sports or otherwise, that are Dallas graduates. What does this school district have against learning and the arts anyway?Flag

Name: Lisa Wallace on Feb 22, 2010Comments: The Marching Band/Band seem so lost. I don't understand how a thriving Band in Middle School gets reduced to almost nothing at the High School. Is it the schedule? Is it the school? Is it the teacher? Is it the lack of funds/support from the district? Or do the students suddenly lose their love for Music?Flag

This is a wonderful outlet for the boys and girls that are involved in music and not in sports. Not all children are interested in sports, Marching band not only gives great experience it gives these children value and that alone is vitally important.Flag

Name: Barbara Hoover on Feb 23, 2010Comments: I feel this is the step that the Dallas Marching and Guard Band needs to take for community awareness and also to create a positive outlook with our Dallas Board, educators, teachers and anyone who is interested in the talents and passion of the gifted musicians in our Dallas community. The band represents the school spirit right up there with all athletics, sports and needs the attention it so rightly deserves to show our talented marchers, band, and guard that we care what happens to our marching band and guard program.Flag

Name: Russ Banta on Feb 23, 2010Comments: I was part of the concert/marching band in the Lester Lewis and then David Ben days. That was the start of a long standing winning tradition. At that time the marching band featured many playing members and a band front that included strutters, silks and a color guard. The current state this program is in is disgraceful. It is unfortunately a sign of the times when more emphasis is placed on sports than on other extra circular activities such as girl scouts, boy scouts and in this case band. DO NOT let this program die!Flag

Name: Jennie Metzgar on Feb 23, 2010Comments: my daughter was a member of the High School Marching Band as well her husband and many of friends. She is currently out of high school over 10 years and remains friends with several of the Marching Bands members. I worked the food stand, went on band trips and enjoyed every minute of the freezing cold tournaments with the kids and parents. Don't take that away from the kids or the families of these kids. Kids that feel a part of a group have a good warmth in their heart and grow.Flag

Name: Allison Hastings on Feb 23, 2010Comments: I did not attend Dallas schools, buy my own marching band struggled for several years too. Fortunately we did not let it die and that band grew again, my hope is that the same happens in Dallas. I've heard about the band of the past, and that can happen again! The students in the marching band need the support of the community, student body and administration. My hope is that when my children are old enough that not only will marching band will be an option for them, but indoor color guard and drumline as well! These programs are not just about music, but physical activity, community involvement, school spirit, relationship building, personal growth, etc.Flag

Name: Amy Fee on Feb 24, 2010Comments: I belonged to the Marching Band when I was in High School and it the best years of my life. Music is a great learning point in any child's life and being a part of the marching band brought me discipline and taught me respect with the many memories to have for the rest of my life. I can't imagine a football game without the support of the marching band or any parade with no representation from the High School Marching Band. A High School Marching Band program should be a tradition for many years to come for any school. Don't let a good thing end, it would be very sad but most of all, the children would be the ones who would suffer the most. Thank you, A Proud Former Marching Band Member.Flag

I was a Strutter back then, didn't play an instrument, but was still part of the band. Could someone PLEASE look into those awful outfits that the flag twillers wear?! The band looks great and then you have those horrible outfits come out....they look very unprofessional. I feel sorry for the girls who have to wear them! I know that this is about the band, but they (flags)cannot be on the field if there isn't one(band). Thanks for "listening".Flag

Name: Deborah Shilansk on Feb 24, 2010Comments: It is sad that somehow Dallas has means for everything else...but forgets about the importance of music in their overall program. I think it would be a huge mistake to drop a program which is vital to many young adults. It is amazing how the Middle School has so many band members but then they it reduces drastically in the High School. Perhaps we should look at the director...and see his overall approach with the kids.Flag
