We, the registered voters of Easton, MA, respectfully petition any member of the Easton School Committee to make a motion to reconsider their action to make certain changes to the 2015 – 2016 school calendar, which include eliminating the first night of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Good Friday as recognized holidays and non- school days. These holidays have been considered days off from school for many decades of tradition with significant community support. These changes were made without sufficient notice and input from the community regarding the desire and need to eliminate religious holidays. The Easton schools can best serve our town's children, families, and educators by continuing to close schools on these religious holidays, when a significant minority of our children, teachers, and support staff are absent. We ask that as a member of the Easton School Committee., you file a motion to reconsider this issue, and please keep Good Friday, Yom Kippur, and the first day of Rosh Hashanah as no-school days! This issue is important to us as parents, teachers, Easton taxpayers, and voters. We looking forward to presenting this to you on at April 9th meeting, 6:30 pm.

We also ask that if changes are necessary, other alternatives should be considered, including starting the school year earlier or moving to a March vacation schedule.
