My local area is going to be extremely hard hit with the defence cuts and the spending cuts. The government have decided that RAF Kinloss is to shut with the loss of around 3000 jobs both service personnel and civilian workers and no decision has been taken on RAF Lossiemouth at present but if this is to close it will be a further 4000 jobs which would mean that 1 in 6 people won’t be working according to government figures however this is wrong and wrong by a long way. Both RAF bases provide income to the local economy and without this it would result in further job losses and it would be more like 4 in 6 people will be out of work and this would have disastrous consequences on local businesses, I do have a personal interest in that my dad owns his own business and it is already effected by the recession. However that is not the reason I am doing this.
The local community in which RAF Lossiemouth sits is already at threat of losing their local community centre which provides the children with somewhere to learn to swim (where i used to swim) and has a number of social activities for them out of school. By shutting this and the potential closure of RAF Lossiemouth this community and town risks becoming forgotten. The community will be become social deprived. Moray isn’t a rich district by far and had a lack of jobs before I moved.
My dream is that one day my family and I can return to Moray but my dream seems so far away now with this threat hanging over them. Moray is one of the most picturequest areas in the northern half of Scotland and in recent years they have done nothing but try and attract holiday makers especially those who like the outdoors but with all the above this is not going to happen Moray will not have the infrastructure to cope as it will be losing £5million revenue each year with the RAF Bases closing the RAF bases used to host troops from USA, Canada and other UN Nations. I am sadden by this and have set up a petition and I am hoping that you will all sign it and pass it on to anyone you know and think would help our plight.
