Monnow Street Mobile Phone Mast

A mobile phone mast has been erected on the roof of the Monmouth IT Centre / Slades Hair Salon. It was installed on Sunday 19th of February 2006.
Local residents had not been informed of this prior to the installation. The initial planning application for this was refused in November 2004 on the grounds that it would spoil the natural beauty of the town. Subsequently the application was approved in September 2005 providing the equipment cabinets were disguised as a chimney. The council claims to have displayed a planning notice - but no local residents were actually notified directly (which apparently used to be the case. If one is not expecting an installation of this sort, why would you be looking out for a planning notice? The main concern is for public health - people living and working close to the mast. There are numerous reports on the health risks associated with living near electro-magnetic fields which we cannot simply ignore. The mast should be removed and an apology from the council and planning inspectorate made to local residents.
Furthermore, there are many angry residents and landlords whose properties may well be devalued as a result of this installation. Something needs to be done - it's not acceptable!

Local residents living and working around the the mobile phone mast have joined together to oppose this installation. Most are professional working people with families. Their concerns have jointly resulted in forming this alliance to remove the mast.
