| 51 | Anonymous | I was extremely lucky to have used Darley Dale maternity unit for the birth of both my children, Charles & Harriet. The professionalism of the staff, the care, support and excellent advise given in those crucial first days was invaluable, both to the nervous and exhausted mother (first time) and the father, from bathing to feeding; I can think of no better beginning for a parent/child relationship. My experience in Chesterfield Hospital came nowhere close to that of this small, intimate and friendly unit. It would be a travesty to lose this valuable asset to the area. |
| 52 | Dr Brian Williams | My wife recuperated after the birth of out two children at Darley Dale, and we had hoped she would be able to do so after the birth of our forthcoming child, due in April.
Services like this are precious. The NHS should be levelling-up, creating new sewrvices like this elsewhere, not levelling-down. |
| 53 | Joanne Marshall | I have experienced both the Darley and Calow Maternity Units - there is simply no comparison. Quality of care is so important. |
| 54 | Sam Oldfield | I fell so privalidge to have had the benifits of Darly Dale maternity unit. It seems such a shame that such a good operation should be dismantled on a sort term cost cutting exercise. The long term cost of the reduction in breast feeding which is bound to result, will far outweight the surrent savings. |
| 55 | ANGELA CURRAN | I had my first child at DCGH and went straight to Darley afterwards. My second child was born at darley and was a lovely experience compared with the inmpersonal environment at Derby, to say nothing of the 20 mile drive to Derby when in labour!
It would be a huge mistake to lose a high quality, local resource. Small, good and local is too often sacrificed whether it be schools, shops or hospitals. Rural communities have a right to receive local services, and these services can also take pressure from larger resources in towns and cities, which we know are already overstretched. |
| 56 | Mr A Marsh | As a first time father un sure of what to do i was made to feel part of the birth not just an on looker and the care and support was second to non. |

| 64 | Kate Carlton-Reditt | I believe women have the right to choose where they give birth. Denying us the Darley takes away this choice. |

| 67 | lucy walker | Women should have a choice where to give birth. Darley offers a local and personal service. |

| 69 | Vanessa Carrington | I am pregnant with my first baby due mid february and very frustrated at the fact that I have to travel to Chesterfield to give birth when the Darley Maternity Unit is 500 yards up the road.
Every Mum I have spoken with during my pregnancy told me how lovely the Darley Unit was and it would be a real shame if future mums were unable to find this out for themselves. |
| 70 | Hanna Link | I have three children under the age of 5. My eldest daughter was born at Derby City Hospital and whilst the services there were ok, they were nothing compared to those I later received at Darley with my son aged 3 and daughter aged 9 mths. No one told me about Darley being available when I had my first baby. I only found out later through other mums. So, naturally when I discovered their home from home scheme and local base in such pleasant surroundings, I had all my subsequent antenatal and postnatal care there for my youngest two children. My youngest daughter was born weighing 10lbs just 20 minutes after arriving at Darley! What would have happened if I had had to reach a hospital instead? Both Chesterfield Royal and Derby City are further to travel to... The staff at Darley already had another delivery that had just happened and did a fantastic quick turnaround to get me into the delivery room in time. I didnt sleep a wink with my first baby, with all the noise and busy bustle at Derby and yet at Darley I was given my own room, (peace!), and lovely wholesome dinners at a dining table with other mums (much more sociable than the hospital dinners at your bed!). I also met several new mums appreciating the services at Darley after traumatic hospital births. Their recovery time there really helped them. Please keep Darley open! My friends just missed out on delivering at Darley as it recently closed for deliveries - one ended up at Chesterfield the other opted for a home birth instead. I wouldnt have the option of a home birth if I have baby number 4, as I have nowhere suitable for my other three children to go to, they need to stay at home ... so what then? They would all have to travel to hospital to visit me if this happened, and my husband would have to pay the steep car park charges! At Derby he queued for an hour to GET IN to the car park - hardly enabling a new dad to see his new baby! Please keep Darley open!!! Other new mums-to-be deserve the choice of a maternity unit - further with the general shortage of midwives in the NHS now - what happens if the hospitals become full and start turning away women in labour -- where do we go then?? a bush??!! |

| 73 | Louisa Hopkinson | My baby is due 27th June 2007, please keep the maternity unit open. With this being my first child I nervious about having to traveling 20miles to Calow to have my baby. Will my baby wait for the additional travelling? |
| 74 | REBECCA PHILLIPS | MY DAUGHTER BETH WAS DELIVERED AT DARLEY MATERNITY UNIT ON 2/9/2006 AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT MY POSITIVE CHILDBIRTHING EXPERIENCE WAS WHOLLY DUE TO THE FANTASTIC MIDWIVES AND HOMELY ATMOSPHERE AT DARLEY WHICH PUT ME COMPLETELY AT EASE BOTH DURING MY PREGNANCY AND DURING THE BIRTH ITSELF. I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR THAT SUCH A FANTASTIC FACILITY AS THIS WAS FACING CLOSURE WHEN WE SHOULD BE THANKING OUR LUCKY STARS THAT SUCH A SERVICE IS AVAILABLE IN OUR AREA. HAVING BEEN IN HOSPITAL FOLLOWING A SERIOUS RTA PRIOR TO MY PREGNANCY HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENTS HAD UNPLEASANT CONNOTATIONS FOR ME AND I BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE BEEN FRIGHTENED AND UPSET HAD I HAD TO DELIVER MY FIRST BABY IN HOSPITAL THANKFULLY I HAD THE OPTION TO DELIVER AT DARLEY AND I BELIEVE OTHER MUMS SHOULD HAVE THAT SAME OPTION. |
| 75 | NICHOLAS PHILLIPS | NOT ONLY WAS MY WIFE EXTREMELY WELL LOOKED AFTER BY THE MIDWIVES AND STAFF AT DARLEY BOTH DURING AND AFTER THE BIRTH OF OUR FIRST CHILD BUT I WAS ALSO LOOKED AFTER AND SHOWN THE BASIC PARENTING SKILLS SUCH AS CHANGING AND BATHING MY NEW BORN. AS A FIRST TIME DAD I FOUND THIS INVALUABLE AND FEEL THAT IT WOULD BE A CRYING SHAME TO CLOSE DOWN A FACILITY WHERE THE STAFF HAVE SUCH TIME AND DEDICATION FOR THEIR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. MY WIFE SPENT FOUR DAYS AT DARLEY DURING WHICH TIME SHE WAS SHOWN HOW TO FEED OUR BABY AND GIVEN SUPPORT AND ADVICE WHILST FEEDING WAS ESTABLISHED. I THINK ALL MUMS AND DADS SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE LEVEL OF CARE AT DARLEY. |
| 76 | Tara Hancock | Darley Maternity Unit was of great importance to me after the birth of my first child. I got 24hour care and support and the ability to rest. With just over a week to the birth of my second child and this facility not available it gives me cause for concern. |
| 77 | Margaret bayliss | Darley Maternity is too valuable a service for hard pressed mums to be axed. If something is so valued, why get rid of it?. |

| 79 | Nick Tomlinson | Darley Maternity Unit provided an invaluable service to both my wife and myself after the birth of both our children. The staff gave us confidence in how to adapt to the arrival of new-born babies and deal with several complications that developed in the first few days. As a father I have the utmost respect and admiration for the work that the unit does and would be very disappointed if that help wasn't available to other people like us in the future. |
| 80 | Louise Turner | Save Darley - professional local service for local people in rural communities! Plus offers excellent results - fewer women suffer from post natal depression due to the excellent after care and their breast feeding success rate (85%) is fantastic compared to the national average (45%).
Lastly, the consultation paper distributed by Chesterfield Hospital is heavily biased and discredits the consultation process! The information provided should be fair - reflecting the pros and cons of the current system as well as the new recommendation - it clearly is not.
I am a mum to be and I have received 3 brilliant recommendations from past mums on the care, expertise and local service provided by Darley.
I would like to be able to use this service too.
Especially when my current hospital (Sheffield Teacher Training Hospital) is extremely busy and encouraging mothers to go local! |
| 81 | Gill Phillips | I had a fantastic matenrity service in 2005 both antenatally and for a June 05 delivery and the team went out of their way to accommodate my requirements which including permitting the use of a water pool and ensuring appropriately trained nurses were on hand to support this. The level of flexibility and professionalism I experienced was exceptional. |
| 82 | RICHARD MASSEY | IT WOULD BE A TOTAL DISGRACE IF THE UNIT WAS TO CLOSE IT'S SOMETHING THE NHS SHOULD BE PROUD OF NOT CLOSING. |
| 83 | sharon ayre | my son was born at darley maturnity unit and my experience was made much more comfortable and the midwives very helpfull and understanding |

| 86 | Anonymous | I had two babies at Darley Dale Maternity Unit 6 years apart. On both occasions the gentleness and sensitivity of the care was outstanding. We were given space and time to bond with our babies. I believe Darley Dale for straightforward pregnancys gives a wonderful opportunity to experience childbirth and the post natal few days at your own pace in your own way in a calm and wonderful environment surrounded by amazing nursing care. |

| 92 | Jane Cookdale | Child birth needs to be removed from the medical setting of hospital where the temptation to unnecessarily intervene is higher and where junior doctors are allowed to make premature decisions.
Further more in the hospital setting, midwives are too busy to offer adequate post natal support reducing the rate of successful breastfeeding and increasing the rates of PND. Mothers and babies need support and time not medical treatment. |

| 97 | Rebecca Dawson | I planned to have my child Joseph at Darley but unfortunately due to difficulties moved to Chesterfield. We did however return to Darley for much needed after care following a section which was wonderful. The staff were caring, helpful and very supportive. To loose this unit will be a great loss for perspective parents in the Derbyshire / Matlock area. I implore you to keep Darley open. |
| 98 | Vicky Killeen | Thanks to Darley Mat I was able to get going with feeding my two daughters (which I found difficult at first), who I then went on to feed until they were one year old. |
| 99 | Zoe Watson | I declare all the support I can for Darley Maternity Unit remaining OPEN. I am 10 weeks pregnant and was hoping to be able to use Darley Maternity Unit as its so close to home. My sister had great service from the unit 2 years ago when she had her son. |
