Name: Roberta Oberpriller on Feb 10, 2005State: MNComments: It has been my experience, having used both equine dentists and veterinary practitioners (including those at the University of MN Veterinary hospital)for equine dental care that the specialized work performed by the equine dentist is far superior to that performed as an add on service by a veterinarian. The equine dentist generally possesses advanced education in this very specialized field, something most veterinarians do not have. The equine dentist should be free to practice his/her art just as the farrier is free to practice the specialization of equine hoof care. Horse owners should retain the right to chose the professional they feel best qualified to perform these services.Flag

Name: Jane Eickhoff on Feb 10, 2005State: MNComments: I just had a veteranarian out to do culture work on our mare and he also performed dentistry work. The first thing he did was to sedate the mare who has never been sedated in her entire life. We have owned her since birth. We could not get our normal person out for her dentistry work. I was appalled that sedating was the first thing the vet did. I would definitely NOT have the vet do any further work on this mare's teeth. I want my equine dentist to have all rights to perform the dentistry work for my herd. After all, do human dentists have to be medical doctors to perform routine dental work on humansFlag

Name: Dallas Larson on Feb 11, 2005State: MNComments: I support the proposed amendment to Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 156.12 removing the practice of equine dentistry from the purview of veterinary medicine. If I choose to pay someone to work on equine teeth, feet, massage, castration, etc, that isn't a licensed veterinarian, that is my choice. I am disgusted with the intervention of government, medical boards, etc. Enough!!!!Flag

Name: Gail Towers on Feb 11, 2005State: MNComments: Legislators, Please support this bill. It must remain our right to choose who does our very basic animal care, especially when no invasive procedures are needed. I agree that if problems arise and chemical sedation must be used a Veterinarian must be called, but sedation is dangerous and shouldn't be used unless absolutely necessary. Please, you must support this exemption.Flag

Name: Rebecca Hompe on Feb 11, 2005State: MNComments: As a horse owner for over 27 yrs I have hired many Veterinarians to perform Equine Dentistry. Some of the people providing this service had very little knowledge in how to perform this service correctly. In order for our stable to provide quality care of our equine friends we must be given the right to choose the best person for this job. Just as we select the best Veterinarians, Farriers, etc... Thank you.Flag
