"Greasing" (the use of an illegal substance to make your body more slippery and less susceptible to submissions) has been a common complaint in recent professional Mixed Martial Arts competition. Rashguards are worn in professional grappling matches to increase grip and avoid such "dirty" tactics. Under the current unified rules of MMA, male fighters are prohibited from wearing any type of top garment. While MMA is different from grappling, rashguards would not effectively make any difference in a fight that involves striking as they provide no real padding from body strikes. The intent of this petition is to attempt to make the United States athletic commissions consider ammending their criteria to help avoid such dirty tactics as greasing. Rashguards would not become mandatory, but optional if a fighter so chooses to wear one.
