To AMC Network and Lionsgate Productions:
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Lionsgate and AMC complete financial negotiations in regard to Mad Men, so production of Season 5 will begin soon enough to air episodes in 2011.
It is essential for the flow of the series that production begin this year, 2011-- not in 2012, as some are suggesting. Delay a year and you may lose both viewers and ratings. We remind you not to take Mad Men viewers for granted.
We love this drama because it treats its viewers as adults. In the swampland of reality television and infotainment, Mad Men is a shining skyscraper above the muck.
If you wrap up negotiations as soon as possible, with compassion toward both its creators and viewers, then it is a victory for all of us. Please remember that Mad Men is not only a joy for its fans, but economic stability for all who contribute their talent to the creation of the show.
We hope Matt Weiner and his excellent team of writers, actors, and producers can come back this year as the family that is Mad Men, and bring its devoted fans the best new season yet.
This is Matt Weiner's baby. Please let it grow and thrive. Now.
Sincerely, Therese Bohn, Judy Brown, and the Undersigned.
