This petition is to address the growing issue of the refereeing in Major League Soccer. We as fans understand that there will be mistakes made and we are in no way asking for perfection, what we are demanding is some sort of accountability.
As a league that is fighting for international respect the officiating has forever been a black eye and a cause for concern.
How is it acceptable for a referee (Chris Penso) to have given 9 penalties in just 13 games? That is an unbelievable number that should draw red flags from everyone involved with the league.
The MLS has recently made a strong push to eliminate "simulations" in attempt to draw a penalty kick. There is even a committee who addresses this problem and hands out suspensions and fines when a player is found guilty. How is there no committee that assesses a referees performance? A committee that punishes the referee who calls the penalty on such "simulation" cases?
All we ask for is accountability. As fans of the MLS we want to see this league grow and become a powerhouse worldwide. Please address this issue and take care of the ever increasing problem with referees.
