Stop the Cuts to Mental Health and Medicaid

It is wrong for Governor Blunt to cut Medicaid, critical mental health services, and the First Steps program. Hurting Missouri’s most vulnerable citizens is not the way to fix our state’s budget problems.

Our leaders in Jefferson City should protect those who cannot defend themselves. It is irresponsible to take away health care services that our state’s elderly, disabled, mentally ill, and low-income citizens need to survive. These cuts are bad for our economy and hurt all Missourians.

By signing this petition, I urge Governor Blunt and the State Legislature to:

 Oppose Medicaid cuts. Do not take health care services away from nearly 90,000 senior citizens, people with disabilities and working poor in Missouri;

 Reject mental health cuts. Do not close Bellefontaine, cut community based services, or cut back on state-operated programs like those in Poplar Bluff, Nevada, and elsewhere that provide needed care to children and adults with developmental disabilities, mental retardation, and mental illness;

 Oppose cuts to First Steps. Do not eliminate or make cuts to this program that provides critical early intervention for children with developmental disabilities.
