John Foderickafter certain dog breeds, what will you ban next? Rapping?
AnonymousI do not support banning the BREED, but the dog. There should be stiffer penalties on dogs that show bad behavior, and the owners of these dogs should be held to higher standards and restrictions. Last summer, my two cats were attacked and killed by my neighbor's dog. It had jumped out of its kennel, and chased both of my cats until it caught them, snapped their necks, and mauled their bodies. There is no excuse for this behavior. only later did i learn this dog had already attacked CHILDREN and was allowed to live. Not only this, but it had been put under restriction: not to be in a kennel without a roof, and not to be outside without a muzzle. If it had done this to my cats... i hate to see the child or any future children this dog may attack. the irresponsibility of the owner, as well as the mistreatment of the dog, caused the dog to be violent. Also, this dog was not a breed included on the list. the point is - the breed does not determine a dogs actions. It is the irresponsibility of the owner who mistreated the dog, and the irresponsibility of animal services not maintaining a watch on such a dangerous animal. glossing over the issue and banning a breed does not solve any problems. Dogs are TAUGHT their violent tendencies from abuse and improper care. Ban irresponsible owners... not loving and innocent animals.

PhilMy pitbull has saved lives. If the breed was banned - two people would not be alive today.
Becky Brooks MacrisIf you research and spend time with some of these breeds, i assure your mind will change. As a Staffordshire Terrier owner (breed which Pitbulls come from) I feel this is a ridiculous ban. Please punish the owners and not the pets.

Matthew BrooksI oppose any dog breed ban. It is the owners responsibilty to train the dog and the owners responsibility if the animal does so called "Attack" someone.
Mary BrooksPunish the owners of the dogs who are not trained to be kind loving loyal pets. Don't punish the dogs and the owner who teach, love and help their pets.
Carrie DubbeldeThis is dog racism. I currently have 2 dogs living with me and each one falls into the breeds listed - these are the SWEETEST dogs I have ever seen. I've never been a dog owner and I'm helping a friend out - now I want my own Pitbull and wolf-hybrid just like my friends. Stop and think about what your proposing!
Adam OwenI do not want to be rude but this is a bull shit law and dogs are what their owners make of them. Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Wolf-Hybrids, Chows, Akitas, or any other dog are what you make it. Killing these breeds wont solve anything, if thats what you want you may as well add labs, retreivers, spaniels, rat terriers, poodles or others because they can be just as or more aggressive then the others. I plan to fight this law
Rebekah Wilson
Kathleen PearsonViciousness does not appear in the breed standard for any breed, and no dog is aggressive by nature. Any breed of dog can be made aggressive if he has an owner that does not care for him properly, including discipline, or that trains him to be aggressive. A dog is not responsible for his having been trained improperly. Punish irresponsible owners. It is morally reprehensible to murder an innocent dog for a human's crime. Even aggressive dogs can be retrained. It takes only time, patience and a commitment. Instead of this proposed ignorant, reactive legislation consider instead legislation giving magistrates the authority to divest the owner of ownership, to place the offending dog with a facility for retraining AND to fine the owner for the full cost of the retraining and placement in a loving home. If you hit the criminals in the wallet, it will be far more effective in stopping them from training dogs to be aggressive than just taking the dog away and killing it. What to they care? If the criminals cared about their dogs, they would not teach them to be aggressive in the first place!
Sabrina BurkindineI dont want this to happen to my city, so I won't let it happen to someone elses.
Katie KressinWhile I am devastated by stories involving dog attacks, I strongly oppose breed specific legislation. It does nothing to address the real issue behind "dangerous dogs" - irresponsible, uniformed, or cruel owners. When these breeds are singled out as dangerous, responsibility is removed from the owner - and if the breed is banned, they will simply move on to another strong breed, and the cycle will continue. I support dangerous dog legislation, but it must cover all breeds and address owner responsibility. Banning specific breeds is ineffective, and unacceptable.

Jacob M. JeurissenBlame the owner, not the dog. In my job i see many pits, rotties, hybrids. all loving and gentle dogs
Nicole PagenkopfBlame the owner not the dog!
Sara Brooks CVTI am a certified vetinary technichan. I work with dogs & cats every day. I have worked with many good & sweet Pitbulls, Rottweilers, & other dogs. I have also worked with & labeled the charts will bite on miniture pintures, labadors, cockers & golden retrivers but I don't see them on your list & don't think ANY BREED OF DOGS should be labeled banned. It is indivduals who do not control, don't train there dogs to be good canine citicans. I believe there is more bad owners/mistreated dogs than harmful dogs when in good homes.
Marlis ToozeI am TOTALLY against BSL! I have a 1 year old rottweiler, and my only concern is that he is SO friendly, he thinks everyone loves him and wants to pet and play with him. My boy spent 9 hours at the State Fair this year, letting hundreds of people, kids and adults alike, pet him, even while he was eating! doesn't sound like an aggressive dog to me! IT'S THE OWNERS NOT THE BREED!!! I'd be happy to bring my rottweiler to meet ANY person who thinks BSL is a good idea. He'd prove them SO wrong! My Rottweiler has his canine good citizen certification and we are starting his therapy certification at the end of the month. Can't do THAT with an aggressive dog!

Richard M Phelps SRBanning a pet Is the dumbest thing I've heard In A Long TIME We Cannot Allow it to continue!!!!
Amber AndersonIt would be truly devistating to so many people and their families if they breed ban gets passed. There can be so many other ways to solve the problems that come up with dogs. I am a school teacher and want everybody to be safe, but banning breeds isn't going to keep kids safe. Education and holding owners responsible will keep lids safe. Please re-think this ban. Thank you for your time. Amber
Sheila Murphy
John HumphreyThere are good pit bulls and evil poodles and dachshunds. If you ban every breed that has ever bitten a person, you will have to ban all breeds. I would support you if you authored legislation for stiffer penalties for people involved in dogfighting, whether promoters or spectators/attenders. Dogfighting is the criminal activity, and it is run by people. Please don't criminalize the dogs.
