| 8 | Karen Perry | I come into the state for conformation dog shows. Conformation dog shows are only for dogs that have not been spayed or neutered and have a confirmed breed pedigree. I have campaigned two animals over a period of three years, and my animals have gone to Westminster and been invited to Eukanuba (an invitation only show) and my oldest male was #6 male in the US in his breed in 2005. My youngest female was in the top 20 and top 10 in her breed in 2003 and 2004. I spend great amounts of money on advertisements and hotels and restaurants, not to mention gasoline and items needed for my stays. One show I come to I spend 4 and sometimes 5 days in your state at one time. My animals are Rottweilers and they are no more dangerous than any other breed. All animals have to be socialized and also taught proper obedience. You cannot be lazy with any animal, and think that they know rules if they are never taught. I will no longer come to your state for any AKC or UKC shows that are given, and will not support your economy if you decide on any type of anti-canine legislation. Enforce the laws you have now and make penalties for dogs running at large stiff and enforceable. Look at the laws in the state of Illinois and how the punishment factor will now be very apparent to people who let their animals run at large and do damage.

I train my dogs to fit in society, they also compete in agility, obedience, tracking and herding. I have friends who own Pit Bulls, Chows and Rottweilers that are ALL good dogs who are trained and well socialized. The breeds are not the problem, it's irresponsible owners. |

Why is it we only hear the stories of the mistrained members of these breeds? where was the press release when a Rottweiler saved his mistress from being raped and possibly knifed to death by an intruder? Why did the press turn down the offer of the story as "not being newsworthy? But yet someone who hasnt properly trained their animal or has trained them for use in dog fights can set the standards for all the breed. The people who agree with Mr Lesch sjould meet my daughter's dogs or my son's dog. But he probably would want to have them put down as being vicious for licking him to death! |

We've been in numerous magazines, newspapers and we reside right here in Minnesota. We're willing to do whatever is necessary to make sure this bill doesn't pass. I don't care how you personally feel about any breed, this type of law does not work. It's a waste of tax payers money and simply does nothing for addressing the issues of why dogs bite. We as dog people need to come together and educate to prevent the mass killing of more innocent dogs that will serve no purpose. If Mr. Lesch continues with this proposal, he would never receive my vote.
