Raymond MoncivaizI am an American and believe that it our unalienable right to pursue life ,liberty and pursuit of happiness. I believe the 1872 law does just that for the average American .
Gilbert J. GonzalezCongress should encourge people to become miners with grants for safety equipment, exploratory core drilling and small mining claim development.

Tommy Victorytell them jerk off politicians to get out of office and get a real job.
steve vanertS-796 will cripple the mining industry and put me and thousands of other people out of work due to the imposed royalties and environmental restrictions in the bill . It will make the U.S.A. dependant on foreign sources for our future metals and mineral needs which in turn will raise the prices of all goods and services due to the trickle down effect, and puts our country in danger of being blackmailed by foreign countries who want to bring down the U.S.A.
francis littleIf you need to eat and eat on something it came from the earth and always will.
Peter ClarkeWith the country under economic stress the last thing needed is for greedy politicians supported by misinformed hikers organizations changing the 1872 Mining Law to handycap one of the few growing industries left in the country. Politicians must realize that they represent not just their constituents and the country at large. A senator from Vermont or California may feel safe voting to raise tax rates on miners in Nevada or Idaho. Only the country at large will suffer through lower employment and less production from now less economic mineralization. Overall tax revenue will likely fall as mining and exploration for new deposits is discouraged in the USA and moves away. Do not believe the environmental organizations lies about acquiring land cheaply. If that money-raising fraud were true they would claim much of the country for themselves. No, it takes a lot of hard work and expense to make a valid discovery. Without some hope to profit there will be no reason to spend the time and money and the industry will decline as the known ore bodies are mined away. Do not change the 1872 Mining Act any more than it has already been.
