The petition

We the undersigned hereby support mining on federal lands within the United States of America, it’s territories and possessions, as stipulated within the General Mining Law of 1872.

We declare and recognize that our entire modern industrial society is built upon and reliant upon the extractive and manufacturing industries with mining as their foundation.
Without mining modern society as we know it cannot survive and would collapse.
If it cannot be grown it must be mined.

We recognize that this law grants United States citizens the right to discover, locate mining claims and to mine locatable minerals on public lands with certain restrictions as per later acts and regulations.

The 1872 mining law underwent the most recent modernization beginning in 1976 with the passage of the Federal Land Policy Management Act and the related 43 CFR 3809 Surface Management Regulations. These Surface Management Regulations were finalized in December of 2001 after twenty five years of public comments, federal land inventories and environmental studies.

We hereby state as citizens of this sovereign nation, we strongly oppose any changes to the 1872 mining law and it’s updates, in any manner that would lead to a reduction in domestic mining and mineral exploration by private industry or individuals.

We oppose all legislation restricting access to minerals on, and under United States federal lands as well as any legislation inhibiting the location of hardrock or placer mining claims, except as limited by current and existing federal laws and regulations.

We oppose the imposition by the United States government, any production royalties or additional industry specific taxes upon new mines, or any that would be imposed retroactively on current mining operations.

We oppose any new laws or regulations that would deliberately or inadvertently lead to, or force the United States to become further dependent on foreign sources for it’s industrial minerals and metals.

We denounce as unworthy of public trust those publicly elected officials who pander to non-governmental organizations and foreign lobbyists, by showing a willingness to cooperate with them in an effort to sell out our nation’s mining industry, when it fits their plans to garner support for destructive environmental causes, self serving political policies and re-election favors.

We the undersigned, hereby call upon our elected officials, especially our United States Representatives and Senators, to oppose all proposed changes to the current United States of America mining laws and regulations.

We call upon these officials to protect and promote domestic mining for the health, well being and continued economic growth of our nation.

We strongly urge these officials to protect the 1872 mining law and it’s updates, as well as the rights of the United States citizenry that are provided and protected by it.
