We, the undersigned, are petitioning for the release of the oft-delayed MIMIC: Special Edition DVD set. We feel time has already shown this film to be a sci-fi horror classic loved by monster movie fans globally, as well as a noted title of critically-acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toros career. The current DVD has a substandard non-anamorphic transfer not approved by Del Toro and little in the matter of extras.
We believe this 2-disc DVD set should include on its first disc a properly remastered and widescreen enhanced transfer of MIMIC, if possible over-seen by the director and his cinematographer. Del Toros alternate edit of the film, along with alternate scenes and deleted scenes, should be an option or preferred choice for this project. The film audio tracks should be available in both Dolby Digital and DTS surround, with an additional audio commentary track by director Del Toro. If possible, an isolated music track of Marco Beltramis score would be included.
The extras on the second disc should include segments on the creation of the opening titles, pre-production art, production history, and the design and creation of the Mimic insects. A documentary covering all these topics would be ideal. Also include theatrical trailers and the various screenplay drafts.
Del Toro\'s popularity has never been higher. He has two number one box office hits in BLADE 2 and HELLBOY, and was the writer/director of three critically acclaimed and award winning films: CRONOS, THE DEVIL\'S BACKBONE, and PAN\'S LABYRINTH, the latter recently nominated for the prestigious Palme d\'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival.
MIMIC reached #3 at the box office in 1997, and has since found a cult following on video due to Del Toro\'s involvement. Please consider this petition for a Special Edition DVD that will deliver this popular director\'s perspective of this film to his legions of fans.
NOTE: The email addresses on this list will not be used for any sort of mailing list. The sponsor of this petition, DelToroFilms.com, is only interested in the release of a MIMIC Special Edition DVD
