The U.S. government spends over 400 billion dollars/year on the military budget, while no other country spends more than 50 billion. Part of the reason why this expense is so great is the profits gained by corporations manufacturing the weapons. If government-run factories were to produce the weapons instead, their cost would be less, and the same number of people would still be employed. The extra funds which would become available could be used to produce additional weapons, increase the pay & supplies provided to troops, provide necessary funding to other govt. sectors, and/or be returned to taxpayers. If you agree that the government should own and operate weapons manufacturers, thus putting national defense, the troops, and conservation of tax funds before corporate profits, please support this petition.
