Name: Jennifer Taveras on Jun 24, 2010Comments: I delivered my son in a brownstone in Brooklyn in May 2007 with a skilled, caring midwife in attendance. It was the most empowering experience of my life and something that should be available to all woman should they choose a home birth option. This amendment needs to be passed to allow this safe, humane, cost effective birthing alternative to be accessible to NY women and their families.City: New YorkUS State: New YorkFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 26, 2010Comments: Women should have the right to choose, where they want their babies to be born. The MMA would make it a lot easier for midwives to work legally and therefore for women to make a proper choice. You can't keep women from having babies. Might as well let us do it, where we feel it's best to give birth. Make home birth legal, protect your future generations by letting good midwives do their job.City: PhilmontUS State: New YorkFlag

Name: Geri Loizzo on Jun 26, 2010Comments: I am the mother of two beautiful boys, ages 7 and 5. They were born at home with the help of a caring, capable expert, our Midwife, Cara. We live in NYC. It breaks my heart to know that mothers today don't have the same choices that my family had due to the increasing difficulty that Midwives encounter in obtaining collaboration contracts with doctors and hospitals. Childbirth is a natural occurance and families and Midwives should be treated with respect and assistance appropriate to this natural process. Sincerely, Geri LoizzoCity: New YorkUS State: New YorkFlag

It is not possible for the certified nurse midwives in NYS to work under the current law because the doctors are dependent on some of the same sources of income.
