| 101 | b symmons | haywards heath | yet another council high handed idea to make money out of the very people who elected them. What they need to remember is the people can also un elect them .Roll on the next council elections we have long memories |
| 102 | Anonymous | Anonymous | I AGREE WITH ENTRY NUMBER 100, THERE HAS TO BE MORE TO THIS THAN MEETS THE EYE, ARE THEY TRYING TO CREATE REASONS FOR ISSUEING MORE FINES IF YOU GET YOUR REG NUMBER WRONG! IF SO, DISGUSTING EXCUSE ! I FOR ONE WILL BE AT THE PUBLIC MEETING AT CLAIR HALL NEXT MONDAY NIGHT ! |
| 103 | Paul L Smith | Burgess Hill | another waste of tax payers money as usual |
| 104 | Steve Thomas | Burgess Hill | Why wasn't a system introduced like the one used at the Martlets (Waitrose) in Burgess Hill. These would have still stopped people handing on tickets to others, but with the benefit of giving change. You are not only ripping off people for parking, you are now helping our local shopping centres loose trade and ultimately close down. |
| 105 | Helen gunn | Hassocks | Stupidest idea, especially for old, patially sighted, disabled and people who are not good with technology. Also people who need reading glasses, forget them, and like me a combination of all the above, who never remembers her numberplate and has to walk back to the car to read it and then forgets when they walk back to the machine! |
| 106 | MISS K GUNN | HAYWARDS HEATH | At 26 years old and quite a wizz with modern technology, i cannot fathom these new parking meters. How on earth is a 70 pensioner going to work out how to use it? It is bad enough that the prices are ridiculously high. I have actualy got a parking ticket due to these meters but actually didnt mind.
Bloody ridiculous. I think i would be cringing in my nice office chair if I new that the public was laughing at me. |
| 107 | Anonymous | Anonymous | I have used these new machines as I frequently visit the Mid Sussex area including Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath and find them frustrating to use. When you park your car you just want to get on and not have to stand for ages waiting for people to punch in their car registration number. there is also a safety aspect to this, as there are more people waiting at one time to use the machine, the queue spills out onto the car park driving lanes.
Even our council (Adur District) ditched such a system shortly after it was implemented, however their system was alot easier to use, it just involved having to punch in the numbers of your registration plate. Do councils not learn from the mistakes of others anymore?!
Something needs to be seriously done about this, otherwise it is going to have a major impact to the many businesses in our towns, then the council really will be losing revenue from shoppers and unit lettings. |
| 108 | Anonymous | Anonymous | what idiot in you planning office wasted so much money on these machines wants his brains tested.
could he not have taken examples from Horsham and
Horley, where it is a simple telephone numbers where
we put in our car number and money within seconds.
I have seen ederly people crying at your machines
frustrated, not knowing how they work, and having to
queque myself 2o mins before I got to the machine
and then about 14 people waiting, you certainly are
driving people from our lovely town, when we hear
you are suppose to be updating the town, You will
have to come up with better ideas , perhaps ask the people what they want, or get out and find out for yourselves.
revise your thoughts |
| 109 | Ruth Perrett | Haywards Heath | They are ridiculous, and seem to be overly complicated to use. |
| 110 | Anonymous | Anonymous | These machines are causing great inconvenience and frustration, are difficult to operate and are definitely detering me from using them. I have started to find alternative locations to shop. |
| 111 | G M Wykes | Lindfield | See my letter published in the Mid-Sussex Times on 8 May 2008 |
| 112 | Lynne Cherry | Burgess Hill | Ridiculous scheme, so time consuming especially when you are on a lunch hour. |
| 113 | Les Spinks | Cuckfield | Most people don't have time to waste struggling with complicated parking machines. They just want to pay and receive a ticket or vice versa not spend time making numerous key presses just because a mean minded council thinks it can stop a few people thwarting it renting the same parking space more than once. Council should have spent our money on robust user - friendly, change-giving machines not this ghastly rubbish. |
| 114 | Irene Spinks | Cuckfield | Not only have shoppers had their time wasted by these complicated machines they also cause distress to many older people . When phoned Mid ~Sussex say that people will get used to the machines - what arrogance - people will take their cars, and their custom - to another town. |
| 115 | Anonymous | Anonymous | This Council has mismanaged this situation very badly |
| 116 | Lorna Shimmen | Horsted Keynes | These new machines are a waste of time, it now takes at least 10 minutes to get a parking ticket! |
| 117 | Gabriella Mills | Burgess Hill | These machines were not necessary. |
| 118 | Paul Corver | North Chailey | Another example of the council raising revenue because central government raid the coffers to send funds to northern cities. The meters are a nuisance to use and the council defrauds users by not giving change. We are already doing more of our shopping in Lewes which has a far better selection of shops anyway. These new meters will greatly reduce the trips we make to HH. |
| 119 | Cyril Woolgar | Lindfield | This new system is a total waste of taxpayers money, extremely user unfriendly even for those who are computer literate and the person who designed this should be fired. Where are all the other areas where this system has been installed in the last 12/18 months. Have yet to find one |
| 120 | Brian Radcliffe | Ardingly | This is a monstrous miscalculation; in practicality, morality and, in the present economic climate, timing. It will have caused the Council`s reputation lasting damage. |
| 121 | Carol Halls | Wivelsfield Green | I work in the Orchards Shopping Centre and virtually all of our customers have expressed anger and frustration regarding these new machines. Many arrive late for appointments and have commented that, even when you know how to use the machines it still takes way too long to follow the entry system, resulting in very long queues forming at each machine. Customers have mentioned that they will not attempt to shop in The Orchards during their lunch breaks as they cannot afford the time it takes to park. NOT GOOD FOR BUSINESSES. |
| 122 | Steve Halls | Wivelsfield Green | A very bad decision by the Council and a waste of publc money ! |
| 123 | Anonymous | Anonymous | I travel in Mid-Sussex, the Orchards have these new meters in and the confusion causes congestion/queuing at the meters. This delays business and puts you off going to not just The Orchards but anywhere where these time-wasing machines are placed.
Good for you for organising The Petition. I hope they listen. |
| 124 | Derek gunn | Hassocks | I am a local tradesman, who occasionally has to "pop" to the bank. Bad enough that I have to pay a ridiculous price, but to have to queue for up to 20 minutes, then try and fathom the machine is madness. |
| 125 | marilyn bellis | burgess hill | this is a ridiculously complcated machine, that was a simple and easy operation with the redundant machines, causing queues, and confusion. |
| 126 | Terry Stevenson | Burgess Hill | The new parking meters have made it a nightmare to park in Burgess Hill and have forced me to find alternative parking. The meters are difficult to use and have meant that I now have to carry my car registration number with me at all times which I find ridiculous. If there were to be any changes made, it should have been to give change when a shorter period of time was required. |
| 127 | Wendy Muddell | Burgess Hill | The new machines are not user friendly and it takes so long to get a ticket. If I have paid for my space I want to be able to transfer my ticket to someone else if there is unused time left on it. Several times recently I have not come into town as I have not had the time to mess about with the new machines. |
| 128 | Rob Riddle | Hatwards Heath | Sadly, having presented us with a fait accompli, I don't imagine that the self-important bunglers who purport to run the town are now in any position to get rid of these machines.
I do have some queries, however: are they bought outright or leased and what are themaintenance terms? I have read that they cost £160,000.....frankly I think this is the tip of the iceberg. |
| 129 | Anonymous | Anonymous | I was able to park and walk into town to avoid using these time wasting, complicated machines. Shoppers will be compelled to go elsewhere and the towns small businesses will suffer. Do something now before it is too late. |
| 130 | Anonymous | Anonymous | Poor height. OK for Diabled who NOT reqd to use
Cursor. Archaic
Instructions not commensrate with machine buttons
Registration Number reqd but last 3 letters. |
| 131 | Stephen Elmer | Haywards Heath | Car parks should be run on a fair commercial basis. "Pay and Display" should be scrapped altogether. It is fundamentally unfair to motorists. At most commercial car parks you can pay for the time used and if you're slightly late in returning, you simply pay a fair price for the extra time and not be penalised out of all proportion to the excess time. And If I don't use all the time I've paid for why can't I transfer this on to someone else.; this should be my entitlement. |
| 132 | Nicola | Burgess Hill | i have a small child and the machines are so complicated i spend alot of time helping others get there ticket so i can get mine if its raining my baby gets wet whilst i do this. total waste of time |
| 133 | Katrina Taylor | Ardingly | A laborious & complicated system which does not take into consideration that there is a large majority of pensioners living locally who will find this system virtually impossible to use & will therefore avoid coming into town. I'm sure this will impact local business too. A touch type screen would be much easier. Who is responsible for this dreadful decision & what planet do they live on? |
| 134 | Richard Tapp | Haywards Heath | Please email me the name of the numscull who was ultimately responsible for implementing these changes - he/she is a public servant whose time has expired.
Thank you

| 135 | Anonymous | Anonymous | These new machines will aid the reduction of community-mindedness and social interaction. |
| 136 | meredith | haywards heath | \Has anyone counted how many keystrokes it takes to process a ticket from these machines\? They are ridiculously user unfriendly and waste too much time. Has anyone calculated the amount of revenues lost by having people wait 15-20 minutes for a ticket? |
| 137 | G V Todd | Burgess Hill | These new machines are far too complex for the elderly and take much too long to enter the data, which results in queues and exaperated residents and I have noticed some people resort to street parking rather than use the car park. Also no change is given.
The only reason the registration is required is to stop tickets being handed on. That is a minute cost compared to the aggravation and cvapital expenditure of the installations. |
| 138 | Adele Evans | Haywards Heath | I wholeheartedly agree with previous comments and are totally against the scheme. |
| 139 | Anonymous | Anonymous | I waited in a queue of over 12 people to pay the parking fee . The machines are not simple to use for people who do not use keyboard or screen technology. Whoever thought this one up needs a good talking to, or more! |
| 140 | Anonymous | Anonymous | Yet another disgraceful act by the the council. Why don't they actually start doing something realy worthwhile rather than trying to make more moeny out of us for such a shoddy service. |
| 141 | Mr Jeremy Clark | Burgess Hill | Who on earth was responsible for the introduction of these ridiculous new payment machines? I for one will not be using them again -- I will stay away rather than suffer the inconvenience, and I predict many others will do the same. |
| 142 | Ian Daniels | Haywards Heath | The new parking meters are a complete waste of public expenditure as the existing meters were perfectly adequate and straight forward to use. The new meters clumbersome and confusing to use. They are not easy for the elderly and often create long cues whilst customers have to spend time punching in numerous letters and digits. The person responsible for the tender process, procurement and installation of these machines should be dismissed as they clearly had not completed sufficient research by the taxpayers who ultimately pay their salary. |
| 143 | Louise Green | Burgess Hill | On 14/5/08 I was 20 minutes late for my sons 9month check up due to the parking meter at the Martlets in BH. Luckily they still saw my son. There was 1 lady ib front of me who thought the meter was broken so walk away without paying. Then I realised I needed my registration and had to check it in full. When I got back to my car there was 4 people in front of me. there as new and unclear and very fiddly it took everyone quite a while to get the hang of it. One lady had to start over again when it failed on her. One lady input the number incorrectly and only realised after the ticket was printed. The knock on effect meant I was late to pick up my other 2 children from their playgroups/preschools. I know this is to deter people from giving their ticket to another driver if time is left. I have to say what harm does this type of social kindness have. if a space is paid for then the council has been paid and it is fairly rare for this to happen anyway as most people tend to stay to the limit of their tickets. |
| 144 | Mr. Robert Turner | Haywards Heath | These things are a waste my time they take ages to use and the ques that build up waiting to use them are a joke. They also cause people to lose their temper trying to use them and having to wait. |
| 145 | dadswell | burgess hill | I feel it is a utter waste of money, may i suggest spending the money on Toilet facilities that are in in desperate need in both Burgess hill and Haywards Heath ,unless you are in the martlets the facilities are disgusting and should be closed |
| 146 | Barry Williams | Burgess Hill | A waste of money
should of spent the money on our roads with all the pot holes around |
| 147 | Alistair Hawtin | Haywards Heath | Ridiculous! |
| 148 | winsome walker | Newick | The old machines behind Waitrose in Burgess Hill were the fairest as they gave change and you were charged for the length of your stay. |
| 149 | Peter Crowdell | Haywards Heath | A terrible idea exacerbated by a terrible implementation. |
| 150 | Simon Hicks | Burgess Hill | The council seems to have acted without any consultation and slapped on a new parking system that is almost designed to put off shoppers. Now Mr Wall adds insult to injury by calling a moratorium on installing the new machines elsewhere in the district but refusing to reprogramme exisiting meters so carparkers no longer have to give their registration numbers.
What is the loss due to “fraud” that Cllr Wall seems to think is so important, if all he is talking about is the potential for car drivers to transfer tickets on occasion, then the actual amount involved must be a tiny percentage of the income. This must be more than counter balanced by the inability of the parking machines to give change. |
