It has come to the attention of Michael Jackson fans that Neverland has been dismantled and is owned now by a group of investors. We petition for the new owners to restore a portion of Neverland as a memorial to Michael Jackson, similar to Graceland, to immortalize Michael & his music. Michael Jackson's body should also be laid to rest at Neverland with an eternal flame so his fans world-wide and future generations can pay homage to him forever. With over 2800 acres, up to 500 acres could be set aside for as a memorial park, accommodating millions of visitors per year. Graceland has approx 700,000 visitors per year. Yes, Michael was torn about returning to Neverland due to his past legal issues in which he was later acquitted; however, we know as fans that he deeply loved Neverland because it recaptured his missed childhood. It's obvious that Neverland remained dear in his heart, given the settlement he reached in November 2008, wherein he still retains a stake in Neverland. So, return the amusment rides, set up his home for tours, display his memorabalia, sell paraphenalia & music, set up a Thriller Attraction (Michael loved horror films), etc. With an admission price up to $50 (Graceland at 13 acres charges $33), Neverland could raise millions to help pay off his debt and raise money for his first love - disadvantaged children. Neverland manifested his love for disadvantaged children worldwide, as referenced in the song he co-wrote, "We are the World." There are many children who will miss their childhood, due to illness, poverty, lack of parents, war, etc...Neverland will be that place where children, like Michael, can be a "child", release their spirit and live free! The fans "Never Can Say Goodbye" to Michael. UPDATE: We have just been informed of a CNN special on Neverland as a Graceland and one obstacle has emerged: local zoning laws (farmland community)/the 2 lane road. The local zoning laws can be resolved with fees/taxes going to the local municipalities. The zoning issue can be resolved with a good developer in cooperation with the local municipalities. For example, Santa Barbara County's tax rate is 8.75% of which approx 0.5% is local tax. If Neverland only was raised to 9.75% (highest CA & local tax rate) with the add'l tax 1.00% used to pay for add'l infrastructure, i.e., roads, police, etc., then we think a new "limited" zoning law could be negotiated. In a financially strapped state, any revenue would be welcomed! CA tax is approx 8.75% + 1.0% local tax (i.e., a little less than $5/ticket on a $50 ticket). This could raise money for the State & Santa Barbara County. Thus, 2 million visitors X $50 = $100 million gross = approx $9 million annually in State & local revenue just on admissions tickets. Sales of paraphenalia, rides, add'l tours, etc., would generate add'l State & local revenue. From our perspective, Neverland is that magical place for the children of the world and for adults to relive their childhood. We're sure Michael's "Got to be There". MEMORIAL UPDATE: Michael Jackson's memorial to take place at LA's Staple's Center Tuesday, July 7, 2009.
