Dear Dr. Kuhlman, we are petitioning for a change in policy regarding the internship documentation. We are seriously concerned about graduating. We have noticed that no other MHC program (including NYU, Columbia, and others) requires their interns to break down the hours at their internship. While we realize it may have been a protective measure on your part to ensure that we get enough direct contact hours, this procedure is causing undue stress for both students and sites. (The truth is that virtually no students are actually getting enough direct contact hours with clients, and it is now December.) Other programs simply require that the student submit the number of hours worked per day, showing that they worked at their site 20 hours per week. This is much more realistic given the reality of the unpredictable nature of scheduling and low number of clients at most sites. We propose that we be allowed to submit our hours in this fashion, otherwise it's unlikely that most of us will graduate in May. Sincerely, The Second Year MHC Graduate Students
