Name: Steve Warren on Nov 6, 2002State: WACountry: USComments: The hobby of metal detecting should be allowed in all Arkansas State Parks. I urge you to repeal the prohibition of metal detecting in state parks. The nice folks who metal detect are some of the best people you will find anywhere. They will help protect the Arkansas parks from vandalism, pick up trash and in general, promote the Arkansas parks to the public. I urge you to form an alliance with the metal detectorists. They are of a vanishing breed.Flag

Name: Wally Dick on Nov 6, 2002State: OKCountry: USComments: I have written Mr. Butts about this a few years ago. We have cleaned the trash out of most of the lakes in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. The State Parks are the exception in Arkansas. It will take 10 years to clean them and nothing you find besides trash will ever repay the gas expense. It is a hobby but some people think we are making money. If this is allowed, the State Parks will enjoy cleaner, safer shorelines for swimming and at no expense to the State.Flag

Name: Pat Tamboli on Nov 6, 2002State: TNCountry: USComments: I personally can not see any harm with metal detectors being used in state parks, we are not going to deface or destroy the ground simply with a small 4 inch scoop, and if you think about it, why if given an opportunity to detect there finally why would we make a mess at all, we detector folks love or country and being one with nature as most of us are, enjoy being in historical sites. thanks, pat tamboli memphis,tn.Flag

Name: Clifton Owens on Nov 6, 2002State: PACountry: USComments: Our hobby brings much enjoyment to the young and old. Like any sport or hobby there will always be a few bad apples. I started this hobby two years ago and have met many good people with the highest of values. The items we find enrich the knowledge of many people and saving these instead of leaving them decay in the ground is a good thing. Please reconsider your decision. ThanksFlag

Name: Dennis Morrison on Nov 6, 2002State: OHCountry: USComments: Dear Sirs, I own a camper and camp all over the US. I also enjoy metal detecting. I am a member of the FMDAC and also a member of other metal detecting clubs. I hope that you will change your minds about our hobby. I work with law enforcement agencies in my area, using my detector. I and many of my fellow club members have retuned many, many items of value this year alone. I have donated many items to local museums. So you see as a metal detectorist, we do try to do the right thing. Thank You for your time, and please reconsider your decision on metal detecting in the GREAT State of ARKANSAS. Sincerly, Dennis L. Morrison Bluffton Ohio, 45817Flag

Name: Vicki Lang on Nov 7, 2002State: OKCountry:Comments: I would like to visit the Arkansas State Parks when visiting my family and friends in your state, but I will not swim in water nor take my nieces and nephews to playgrounds where metal detecting is not allowed because of all the dangerous sharp items on top of and barely below the surface of the ground. A beach and playgound that is open to detecting is kept clean and clear of dangerous objects by the volunteer efforts of detectorists who also bring money into the area by buying food, lodging, gasoline, etc. Thank you for your time. Name: Keith Wills on Nov 7, 2002State: TXCountry: USComments: I'm in support of opening state parks in public use areas of the parks to the recreational hobby of metal detecting. There are 38 states now that accept this as a sport active by many members of all ages. Arkansas needs to join those other such states and permitt this fun sport in their state parks. Keith WillsFlag

We chose states that permit our hobby of Metal Detecting. We avoid states that do not. We are sorry to learn that Arkansas in in the latter category. We were driving within Arkansas last month (August 2002) but will avoid the state in the future.Flag

My health is better for it and it is a great way to spend time with my family. Please reconsider the law that prohibits this harmless hobby. Take a minute to think of your favorite hobby as being illegal..wouldn't that be a shame Thanks, John PynenbergFlag

Name: DENNIS BRASHER on Nov 9, 2002State: TXCountry: USComments: I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO ALLOW METAL DETECTING IN STATE PARKS. METAL DETECTING IS A VERY GOOD HOBBY THAT BENEFITS THE DETECTORIST AND WELL AS PEOPLE THAT HAVE L0ST ITEMS RETURNED. I AGREE THAT AREAS OF OF UNDISTURBED HISTORIAL SIGNICENTS SHOULD BE OFF LIMITS BUT OTHER AREAS OFFER A GOOD PLACE TO LOOK FOR LOST COINS BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC. AFTER ALL THE PARKS ARE FOR PUBLIC USE. THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION DENNIS BRASHER PS I LIKE TO TRAVEL ARKANSAS ON VACATION AND USE MY DETECTOR. IF OFF LIMITS I WILL GO TO ANOTHER STATE.Flag
