Metal Detecting In Arkansas State Parks

Based upon a directive dated July 1975, Metal detecting in the Arkansas State Parks is prohibited. Those of us who enjoy our hobby, both Arkansans and tourists alike, should be benefitted the same rights as other hobbyists such as fishermen, campers, hunters, etc. We are asking that the State Parks Director and the Parks Commission reconsider their decision earlier this year and work with the metal detecting enthusiasts to arrive at a solution which will be beneficial to both the hobbyists and the Arkansas Parks Department.

This petition is sponsored by the Arkoma Coin & Relic Club of Siloam Springs in Siloam Springs, AR. Our club, along with over 140 other clubs throughout the nation belong to the FMDAC (Federation of Metal Detectors & Archaeological Clubs, Inc) whose commits themselves to the protection, promotion and preservation of our great hobby while, at the same time, adhering to the Treasure Hunters Code of Ethics vowing to observe all legal restrictions; observing the property owners rights and privacy and advocating the protection of our environment by properly discarding items found which are of no value to the public or the hobbyists.
