Name: John P. Jewell on Jul 8, 2008Comments: When Avis Meyer was being considered for tenure there was some worry that the University would not grant it . Students and alumni rallied, letters were written, tenure was given. Back then I wrote to the late Father J. Barry McGannon and explained were it not for Avis Meyer, I probably would not have finished my undergraduate degree '77 and not even thought about completing my Masters'83. In this current situation I just can't get past feeling there are some sour grapes at the administration level.Flag

Name: Katie Anderson on Jul 8, 2008Comments: Avis Meyer is one of the best instructors that I've ever had at SLU. Lawsuits like this guarantee that there will never be an alumni donation from me once I've graduated due to the agenda that SLU has in place.Flag

Name: Daniel O'Connell Hamilton on Jul 8, 2008Comments: Once again, Rev. Biondi has disgraced the University with his Machiavellian antics. The U. News was never immune from criticism or need for improvement; however, the naked, petty exploitation of power over the student journalists displayed by the charter change and the bizarre hostility towards a beloved professor shows once again the urgent need for the Province to send Father Biondi back to the vineyards of secondary school teaching and out of the personality cult he has tried to foster at our University. He is long overdue for a change of scenery. We are long overdue for a leader whose strength of character will lead the ailing soul and spirit of our alma mater to the heights of its buildings and real estate. I suggest to the Board that this latest offense is a suitable moment to commemorate the end of the Biondi era, and to send him packing with the unlamented Archbishop who leaves our city not a minute too soon.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 13, 2008Comments: I find this law suit to be egregiously repugnant and dishonorable in its' intent. The actions of Rev. Biondi clearly display his flawed character. Biondi's repetitive arrogant behaviors, and his blatant disregard of Christian values should not be tolerated by an otherwise fine Jesuit Institution, such as St. Louis University. Rev. Biondi has so frequently displayed his arrogance and utter disregard of the rules that others are expected to abide by; that University Alumni, Faculty members, students and other affected parties should demand his immediate resignation. And, should his arrogance come into display once again, then this same group should demand that University Officials terminate the Rev. for conduct detrimental to the School.Flag

Name: Jeanine Freeman Benanti on Jul 21, 2008Comments: It breaks my spirit to have watched my daughter, Diana Benanti, being dragged through this terrible ordeal and I can never forget how the SLU provost called her into his office to deliver Biondi's veiled threats until she was forced to leave the University just before her senior year. But before she left, Diana refused to back down on printing the truth in the U News as any editor-in-chief would be expected to do, before or after her. Long live the U News.Flag

Name: S. Graf on Jul 27, 2008Comments: Fr. Biondi, Your actions are a horrible, horrible mistake. Little are you aware of Avis' reach amongst alumae. These alumnae are now citizen of the working world -- as you know, money talks and money can also walk. Think long and hard about the University's actions. The UNEWS would have been nothing notable had it not been for Avis' untethered dedication to journalism and his students.Flag

Name: Carol Steimel Truesdale (A&S '81) on Jul 29, 2008Comments: Avis Meyer is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to SLU. Many moons ago, he helped me get my start in journalism--both in his writing classes and as a staff reporter for the UNews. Father Bionidi...you're badly in need of a heart and a brain. "Forgive and forget"...perhaps that is in the Jesuit mission somewhere!Flag

Name: Stephanie M. Johnson on Aug 24, 2008Comments: 1. Until this is resolved in a manner I consider fair, I will not donate to any SLU programs. I donate to the Larry J. Baricevic A&S Fund annually, but I know Dr. Baricevic would understand my refusal to do so this year. 2. Why would I want to encourage any prospective student (including my own child) to attend a university that treats its student newspaper and such a respected professor in this way Again, unless this is resolved in a fair manner, we'll look elsewhere. Do not take this lightly: In my current position, I work directly with hundreds of outstanding BA and high school graduates.Flag
