Eileen HeidenheimerI am disappointed that the university that helped keep me on the path of lovingkindness and compassion, in the late 60s, is losing touch with the human element of education. I will not be making any monetary contributions to SLU until I perceive a shift in their focus, from power and control to acceptance and respect.

Mary Lisa Carenza-KeenanWhat in the world is happening here? Professor Avis Meyer is one of the top 10 greatest things Saint Louis University has to offer the world. What he brings to the students of this university is extrodinary and needs to be respected. I am concerned to see this kind of action being taken against a Jesuit University professor - what in the world is happening here??? Mary Lisa Carenza-Keenan

Anne Dailey MeyerIt seems Fr. Biondi will stop at nothing in his vendetta against Dr. Avis Meyer. This lawsuit is outrageous and without merit. That the University's Board of Trustees continues to stand beside Fr. Biondi in all of this is truly incredible and sad. Enough is enough.

Joe HodesDr. Meyer is a credit to SLU and should be praised, not litigated against. It is a shame that Fr. Biondi is so blinded by personal vendetta that he cannot see that.
Meghan NationI feel that this lawsuit is to fulfill a personal vendetta against Professor Meyer by Rev. Biondi. As a SLU student getting ready to graduate, I have lost a lot of faith in SLU's ability to look beyond financial gain. I see my school falling apart because of large tuition increases, a hike in the average household income of incoming students, and a personal vendetta that has threatened to take away the student voice on campus.

Jay NiesFather Biondi -- You are an ordained agent for Christ. You’re supposed believe and teach the Gospel in all you say and do. Your spiteful actions regarding The University News are having the exact opposite effect and are undermining the Church and the Holy Priesthood. Be true to your priestly calling and do the right thing: Apologize to Dr. Meyer and the staff of The University News, and end your participation in this vindictive escapade.

Tom DowneyFor what shall it profit a Jesuit university, if it shall gain the whole world, and lose its own soul?
Jeannette CoopermanProf. Meyer has poured out energy, intelligence, compassion and deep dedication for years, sacrificing his time and personal needs for the sake of his students. That weighs more than this battle--or it should.

Jon QuarlesDr. Avis Meyer is an outstanding teacher, mentor and friend to students. Dr. Meyer is an asset to SLU and one to be appreciated. Fr. Biondi should cease this and refocus on positive matters.

Peter Lah S.J.SLU administration and its Board of Trustees obviously believe that they need to protect the integrity of its trademark. By suppressing the autonomy of University News and suing its long-time advisor and professor of journalism, they risk doing it more damage than good. For decades, The University News has been a place of excellence in journalism education. To accomplish that, a newspaper needs autonomy from powers that be. It hurts any civic-minded person to see a journalistic enterprise being turned into cash cow or public relations tool. The pain is compounded when such things happen at an institution that professes the values of respect, critical judgment and civic engagement.
Margaret Weber CraneFather Biondi should be ashamed to call himself a christian man if he goes through with this federal lawsuit. It is an insult to jesuit teachings and traditions as well as to common sense. If Father Biondi follows through with the lawsuit, he will do nothing but cut down the morale of the university's students, alumni, fellow faculty and staff. The pending suit has already tarnished my pride of calling St. Louis University home. Dr. Avis Meyer is to this day my mentor, as he was during my university years. He is not to be treated as a business deal but as an upstanding pillar of strength and pride at St. Louis University. Protecting students is what he does best. Teaching students is what he does even better. Filing to claim the University News name, and in turn, even surrendering it has taught his students -- both past and present -- to fight for that which you believe. In Dr. Meyer's case, what he believes in one and the same: students' best interest. So now, I choose to fight on his behalf and express my sheer disgust at Father Biondi's unwillingness to be what he, as a jesuit, preaches: a humble man following in Christ. How a university could possibly ask more from a professor like Dr. Avis Meyer is beyond me. It is an injustice to the credibility of this jesuit institution which holds honor to such high esteem to follow through with this pitiful, absurd and selfish lawsuit. Please consider not what you "lose" Father Biondi, but what your students, alumni, faculty and staff will continue to gain with a tenured, award-winning professor like Dr. Avis Meyer on your team. Yes, team, Father Biondi. I pray you have not lost your knowledge of the word. If you have, I know a very good mentor with a vast grasp of every detail of the english language. He's in your Communications department. His name is Dr. Avis Meyer.

Andrew HerrmannI am disgusted. That so-called Jesuit Biondi has been attacking Avis for for years, despite Avis' tenure and his students' love of him. Biondi needs to go, not Avis.
Meredith BoggessThis whole thing is nonsense and yet another embarrassement to the reputation of SLU. Dr. Meyer has for years been an asset to the University's faculty and student body and should be treated with the respect someone of his tenure deserves.
Adam MeisterI would wager most students that were involved with the The University News would say that Dr. Meyer, above all other faculty, had the greatest impact on their development and education while at SLU, whether they had him for class or not. This is no way to repay such a respected professor. If Dr. Meyer inspired even a handful of students to pursue objective, independant journalism as a career, the administration should applaud his work and impact.

Alexis B. CrowellAvis Meyer is quite possibly the best teacher at the University. I know this because he is one of the hardest teachers there is, but students continue to want to take his class. Why? Because everyone walks out of there with a changed view of life. Not one person who has come out of his classes can say that the skills he has taught them have not come up almost every day in their lives. His standards for us are much higher than other teacher's standards for us, but there is a difference between Avis and the others. Avis sets sky high goals and standards, and then he makes it his personal mission to help us live up to those goals and standards. I have never been pushed so hard but felt so much reward from a University class. Now that I have graduated and am out in the real world, I appreciate him even more. Unlike most other classes, the things I learned in his class show themselves out here almost every day. Let me tell you, it's not often I'll back a teacher that kicked my butt...but his class is the first class I've ever learned something from a good butt kickin'. You would be losing one of the best teachers at Saint Louis University all because of your ego. I hate to have to say this because I am so much younger than you, but you need to recognize your fault, be a grown up and let it go. The University will be better for it.
Richard BerginNot much of an example that Father Biondi is setting for the students of Saint Louis University.
