We, the undersigned students, alumni, faculty and friends of Saint Louis University, respectfully urge Rev. Lawrence Biondi, S.J., and the Universitys Board of Trustees to reconsider and withdraw the trademark-infringement lawsuit recently lodged against Professor Avis Meyer for two reasons:
1. Professor Meyer relinquished the name of the nonprofit organization at issue on August 21, 2007; the trademark-infringement suit was filed on Oct 11, 2007. Thus, the reasons for the suit appear to be vengeful, vindictive or part of a personal vendetta traits that threaten to damage and dishonor our universitys mission and history.
2. The withdrawal of the suit would demonstrate forgiveness, understanding and compassion, traits honorably espoused and openly endorsed by the Church, the Jesuits and our University.
