We need your help! A group of community leaders, educators, parents, and business people are applying to the Utah Board of Education to establish an online charter school.

The mission of the Mercury Online Academy of Utah is to provide a rigorous K-12 academic program that utilizes the best aspects of blended, online and traditional classroom learning.

Featuring world-class content and college-preparatory skill building, Mercury will provide compelling inquiry-based learning designed to spark students’ intellectual curiosity. Students will develop an understanding of their unique
areas of strength. Mercury’s balanced approach combines high-tech online learning with high-touch classroom-based instruction. Mercury students will develop a strong sense of community and cooperation as they learn both to
support and to lead team initiatives.

Pending approval, the online charter is planning to open in the summer of 2014 for grades K-12. Please sign the petition below so that this new online charter school can become a reality. Note that by signing, you attest you are an
interested community resident or parent of a school-aged child who could benefit from this opportunity, and you support the mission of this school.

By becoming involved early in the establishment of this new online school, you will be privy to information on enrollment and potential lotteries.

Unique Features Provided by Mercury will Include:

• A full range of college preparatory K-12 courses including Advanced Placement®, world languages, and health/personal fitness

• Supplemental and advanced courses often not available in smaller school districts.

• Classes for credit recovery

• World language instruction (Spanish, German, French, Latin or Mandarin Chinese) in all grade levels

• Flexible study times via asynchronous lessons

• Personalized student achievement plans that allow for learning acceleration and advanced achievement

• Two instructional delivery/attendance location options

a. 100% online – Full time online instruction at home or at any location with Internet access

b. 4+1 – 4-day per week online instruction at home supplemented by one day a week supplemental
face-to-face instruction at the local Mercury learning center.
