We ask that Father Adrianus Suyadi, a Catholic priest in Indonesia, be allowed to give pastoral care to the 246 asylum seekers on the boat in Merak.
On Christmas Eve one of the asylum seekers, George Jacob Samuel Christin, died from ill health due to poor conditions on the boat. He was also a Roman Catholic. His fellow passengers wish to conduct a funeral prayer service on the boat.
The Christians on board were unable to attend church on Christmas day and Father Adrianus Suyardi's visit will help provide them with some spiritual guidance.
We request that Father Adrianus Suyadi be allowed access to the boat immediately.
