This petition goal is to promote justice for the mentally ill and insure public confidence in our justice system.

This petition addresses issues of fair criminal sentencing practices for the mentally ill offender. It motions for an arrestee's mental health to be taken into consideration at the time of sentencing.

While there are laws aimed at this objective, not all crimanal defeants enjoy the protection of these laws.

Petitioner is only of thousands of mentally ill arrestee's that fall through the cracks of our court system.  But it doesn't mean that he is less entilted to fair justice.

Updates

April 26, 2019

The stories shared in the comments prove that too many people are currently falling through the cracks of our court system. Please contact your local representative today to demand that mental health status is properly weighed during sentencing. We have to keep this pressure on until the law protects everyone equally.

April 26, 2019

The momentum behind this push is real and shows how many people recognize that our justice system is failing those who need help most. Post this link on your Facebook page right now and email your local representative to demand they address these sentencing gaps.

totaly agree. judges need to understand the difference between a criminal and someone suffering from a mental health crisis.

The system is so broken. People getting locked up instead of getting the help they actually need is just wrong.

My brother went through this and it was a nightmare. he needed a doctor not a jail cell.

About time someone addressed this. Prisons are not hospitals and it is cruel to treat them like the same thing.
