We wholly support her which puts an impossible strain on our family income, well being and quality of life.Flag

Name: Larry A Lee on Oct 4, 2012Comments: For years we addicts have been told, as has the public in general, that addiction is a disease. We have also been told that both Addiction and Mental Illness involve disorders of the brain. I personally interpret this to mean that both are MEDICAL conditions and deserve the same attention, funding, and insurance reimbursement as any other medical condition. Thank You.Flag

Name: Michelle Muskus on Oct 11, 2012Comments: this directly impacted my son last year and we were not approved to stay at a mental health facility because New Directions deemed it not necessary and my son had just been declared mentally incompetent by a judge and was put on Lithium for the first time. We had to pay $5,000 out of our own pocket.Flag

This prevents excellent doctors from being covered under your program and I would recommend that you all reevaluate thisFlag

Comments: Mental Health Reform is the answer. People need to be able to seek help for themselves & their loved ones before tragedy strikes. Someone I love VERY much went to the ER in MI due to having suicidal thoughts and MI Blue Cross denied coverage for her ER visit due to the mental health reason for going in. We had to fight this to get it paid by BCBS. Shame on them....should she have done the alternative & not gone for help? Government needs to focus on ways to help states help us, those in the mental health field, help the mentally ill....that would be time and money well spent.Flag -

Name: Bonita Walker on Dec 16, 2012Comments: unless your rich no one can get a dependant or older in a mental health facility for treatment and long term stay..our health insurance companys have made it too costly for families and or caregivers and nearly impossible for long term stay...thats why our prisons are full to capiticty of mental health patients..just becaused Regan closed the facilities in the 80's does not mean theres not a need for care and treatment of those who may never be sane and be able to function in society.....Help us be able to get help and treatment without insurance companies telling us what and how to care for the mentally challenged on their terms.....Flag
