Name: Megan Knoblauch on Apr 28, 2008Comments: Camp provides so much for people even above the age of 17. For so many of these kids this camp is their life and to take that away is completely wrong! My brother grew up at this camp and if it was taken away from him his life would have been devastated. If this happens I can't tell you how much this will destroy the lives of the kids who attend camp.Flag

Name: Carole Lipari on Apr 28, 2008Comments: I'm 15 years old and I've been attending MDA Summer Camp for the past eight years; this letter broke my heart. There is no other way to put this; MDA camp has gotten me through all discrimination and self doubt as well as the blessings I've received throughout my entire life. I've grown to be the mature and confident person I am today because I was able to experience a life without boundaries due to MDA summer camp. I'm planning on going to college and I see myself as a successful participant in our world, but taking camp away is taking an important stepping stone out of our dreams to be not only independent, but positive that we're going to be something more, something better and something more extravagant than what seems to be displayed on the outside. Listen, MDA, to teenagers and young adults like me who firmly believe camp isn't merely a part of summer; it is a part of life.Flag

Name: Ashley Sequeira on Apr 28, 2008Comments: I am a 17-year-old, 18 on May 9th, with SMA type 2. I am completely devastated about the camp situation. I'm very confused and worried about life after I graduate and I used to comfort myself by saying "it's okay, you'll always have a week of camp with whatever you choose to do in life!" but now it's gone. What else is there to hope for I'm deeply upset.Flag

Name: Joe Quinlan on Apr 28, 2008Comments: As a special education teacher working with young adults with developmental disabilities 18-22, I see first-hand the limited programming available for the young adults I am working with. Its hard enough already for families to find appropriate, quality adult programming. This camp has done an amazing job helping the young adults 'transition' into adulthood! Keep the spirit of the camp alive!Flag

Name: Kathleen Hoppe on Apr 28, 2008Comments: I hope that national will allow campers to video tape messages, and will watch these to get a true message of why this is so devastating. I have no doubt that they made the decision based on sound economic reasons, but there is much more to consider.Flag

Name: Dan Schmidt on Apr 28, 2008Comments: The campers at MDA camp are the most inspirational people I have ever met. I have seen them take on challenges that most people won't face in a lifetime. Their actions have inspired me in my darkest hours to keep fighting MD and hold on to my will to live. They are good people, people who I consider as family and the fact that there are people out there who want to hurt the campers, hurt my family by taking four years of camp from them is just plain wrong. If I can go to camp til I'm 21 then every other camper should have that right. I'm gonna fight this, no matter what it takes.Flag

After only one week with these individuals, I have experienced first hand how much camp means to them, and how much they enjoying spending time with their friends, campers and counselors alike. This is a week when they can get away from their everyday and just enjoy life and all it has to offer. Don't take away this cherished week from any of them; there must be something that can be done!Flag

It just doesnt seem right to the kids around the age of 17 and above. its not even right to the younger children because as they grow they won't have as many years to look forward toFlag
