We, the citizens of McNairy County are petitioning the McNairy County Election Commission to reconsider the closing of the Lawton, Leapwood, Purdy, McNairy, and Cypress Precincts. We believe the Election Commission should make every effort to encourage more people to vote in future elections. It is our belief that the approved plan will discourage people from voting in future elections. The polling places that are being closed are important to the rural communities. This decision will affect the elderly and disadvantaged voter’s access to the polls on election day. Voting is the most important right that we have under the constitution.
