I support the establishment of a publicly known, Biblically-based, clear and effective church-wide disciplinary protocol for Metropolitan Baptist Church of Washington, DC (Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Senior Servant). I believe a straightforward, respectful, easy-to-understand, and uniform disciplinary policy based on the words and teachings of Jesus Christ will protect members from the potential of abusive practices, religious and otherwise. In addition, such a policy will help members understand what is expected of them and what will result when inappropriate or hurtful conduct takes place. I care about the members and leadership of my church, and I know the establishment of clear guidelines and clear courses of action when there are challenges will HELP PROTECT EVERYONE at Metropolitan Baptist Church. (The questions below are OPTIONAL, and responses will NOT appear on the internet. Some of the suggestions received over email thus far! • Scripture should be provided to support each disciplinary action • Incorporate communion vows into disciplinary protocol • Check with other churches in area for copies of their procedures for a starting point • Pray, spend time in study of what the Bible says about church discipline • Don't dictate, communicate!
