Hi! My name is Maya Newell and I am trying to help save the prairies.

Prairies are the open grasslands in the United States, and only 1% of our prairies have no human activity (roads, houses, etc). Prairies are important to us for many reasons:

* they help stop erosion (where river banks disappear)

* they are home to thousands of different kinds of plants and animals

* they are a natural filter to help our water stay clean

* they are an important place for birds to rest and eat when they migrate

I am writing a letter to President Obama and would like to include your signature in my letter. I am asking him to donate money to organizations that are already helping save the prairies. These organizations own prairie land that is donated to them, or they buy the land, or they work with landowners to keep the land a prairie.
