Name: John McKeeby on Mar 4, 2010Comments: Max V Shaul Park is a critical link in our communities efforts to promote environmental education and the values and importance of stewardship by the general public for our State's natural resources. The Schoharie River Center, Inc. a non-profit organization that works with area youth to engage and involve them in the study of their local environment, utilizes the environs of Max V Shaul Park and the surrounding areas along the Schoharie Creek as an outdoor classroom, bringing youth from as far away as Schenectady to learn about nature, local ecology, and their relationship to the natural world. Their are few places available to the public within Schoharie County that offer those who cannot afford "second homes" a place to come and set up camp and enjoy the great outdoors. The closure of the park would have a direct negative affect on our efforts to provide high quality expereintially basaed environmental education and youth development services to capital district youth (many at-risk youth) through out the year. I respectfully urge the Legislature to reconsider the closure of this needed community resource.Flag

Name: Andrea Porter on Mar 4, 2010Comments: I am the President for the friends of Minekill State Park and Max V. Shaul State Park. I think that it is a shame that we have to face closing ANY of New York State Parks just because there is a budget gap to close. The only reason that there is a gap in the budget is that government has spent our tax dollars on needless spending. Why should we have to face no place to recreate just because of carelessness in government! Please lets ban together to find a way for parks not to close. Where will all the people spend their free time if the parks close?? How are we going to police all these closed parks. We will have to hire more law enforcement. Is that saving any money that we hiope to save? What will happen to maintenance of these parks if they close? what will happen if a tree falls on someone and kills them? It will be a huge liability!Flag

Name: Doris P. Cady on Mar 5, 2010Comments: I think it's a shame that they are planning on closing ANY of the parks in NY. We're having enough trouble keeping people in NY, let alone damaging the income that we get from folks coming to the parks with their families and enjoying them. People can't get away too far these days, the economy is so bad and many families just can't afford the "Disney" trips. Taking away the ability to go to the parks, takes away perhaps the ONLY recreation some families have and are looking forward to. It's a horrible shame and a HUGE mistake!Flag

Name: Charlene Clark on Mar 9, 2010Comments: As an active member of the Kelley's Softball team, I am urging the NYS legislature to reconsider closing the Max V Shaul State Park to our softball teams. If not for any other reason than to encourage outdoor physical activity for the residents and children of Schoharie County. It would be a great disservice to close this park that has played an integral part to our league over the years.Flag

But the closings would create a severe financial hardship the the local merchants who rely on the parks visitors for their income.Flag

Name: Alan Laffety on Mar 11, 2010Comments: I think it's important for all of the state parks to stay open because it is our right as NY citizens to have this for our use, instead of meaningless meeting rooms at a cost of several 100 thousand dollars to repair. These parks are very important to us as citizens because it provides for a way for us as families to stay together and provide recreation instead of our kids out on the street causing problems. The parks also bring income to the locality's surrounding the parks, which is important to them as well, maybe life changing in some cases.Flag

The Max V Shaul state park in Schoharie Valley is indeed a treasure to all who have and will use it in the future.Flag
