Vance TaylorBarbadosPeople like me need to be able to come to Maui/Hawaii and stay in an affordable place!
Gayl WardLewiston, Ca USA
Allan HirschRodeo, CA, USAI visited a bed and breakfast that was charming in the daytime, stunning at night. It was so obvious that the bottom line was about offering to the guests exactly what they hoped for: a moment in paradise. To be treated with utmost courtesy and warm-heartedness from the hosts. The bottom line to this regulation is money and power period. Under no circumstance will I ever stay at the hotels here especially with this kind of chess move. And I will tell others and ask them to tell others. You can take that to the bank!

Ryan AarstolBellingham, WAWe come over there every year and rent a house. We come with our immediate family, our children, my parents and my wifes parents, and usually some others. (5 others this year) We get a big house and all stay there. We definately would not come if forced to stay in a hotel. It is almost impossible to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks with children (2 and 4 years old)

james morrisonPeoria, Illinois, USAMy wife and I have been coming to Maui every other year since 1995, but next year are spending most of our time on the Big Island because of the lack of availability of Maui vacation rentals.
Paula Mims DionPortland, Oregon, USAI have relatives on Maui, but if I visit, I must choose an ultra-commercial hotel or condo, which might as well be in Florida. Without the opportunity to stay in a residence with my children and connect with locals, I must weigh my choices and consider Kauai or another island which welcomes us as respectful visitors. I will miss Maui.
Arthur & Carol SimpsonArlington, TX 76017
Mike BernhardAberdeen,MD USAI visit the islands at least once a year and most of the visits are to Maui. Are you afraid a single owner might do well or are you just out of touch? I always stay in owner rented condos and I like staying out in areas far away from the tourists for peace and quiet ! Give small business people a break(NOW MORE THAN EVER)and give your visitors what we want as I can afford to visit more often when using alternate accomodations! Think before you lose anymore visitors!
Malcolm BrowneThredbo, NSW, AustraliaI go to Maui for the "Island Feel" that is not available at hotels etc. I and my Family will not return unless this is allowed again. Regards MB
Brian BlakeTampa, FL, USA
Jane GoldePonte Vedra Bch, FL, USAOur family of 5 will be staying in Hawaii for most of the summer of 2010. If the only choice for accommodations is resorts or condos, we will not come to Maui. If Maui does not want us as visitors or any of the dollars spent during our lengthy stay, we will stay on another island where we can find more private, homelike accommodations. There are many people who feel like we do. Forcing all visitors into resorts and condos will drive many of the most desirable people away. We are more caring and appreciative of our host surroundings than most typical hotel/resort type guests. Maui will hurt its environment, its culture, and its tourist income by shutting down homelike vacation rentals.
Christi MottBoise Idaho
Carolyn AnderssonMpls, MN & Soroya, NorwayI have submitted to your mayor a letter that supports vacation rentals -- it is short-sided for Americans to limit this alternative lodging. This has been present and accepted with no negative effects in Europe for years. The vacation home owners need the income and provide jobs for others -- and people coming to visit your lovely island want privacy and to experience a safe and local way of life.
Autumn DorschnerCarlsbad, CA USAMy husband and I, as well as members of my family have stayed at Kailua Maui Gardens in Haiku and were extremely disappointed to find out that they are no longer allowed to operate. Not everyone who vacations on Maui is happy staying at a large hotel. This really limits our choices.
Casandra von EschHighland, CA, USAI was so disappointed that wecould not return to the lovely Jungle cottage where we stayed two years ago.
AnonymousSan Diego, CA. USAWe were very disappointed to find that several of our favorite B&Bs and small hotels were no longer in business. It makes Maui a less inviting travel destination for our family.
Alison SawatzkyDundas, Ontario, CanadaI am very disappointed with the decision to close down many of the Bed and Breakfast, and Vacation Rental Homes, outside the urban areas. When I travel to a new place, I am not interested in staying in cities - I can do that at home. I wish to experience the unspoiled countryside and to interact with people outside of the resort industry. The move to close B & B and cottage rentals is making me seriously reconsider my decision to visit Maui this summer. We already have tickets to the state of Hawaii, but may now change our plans and spend our time on islands other than Maui. This means that your economy will be losing 2 to 3 thousand dollars of income. This is just from my trip. Imagine the result if hundreds of people start to boycott Maui because of your short-sighted policies. You should be more concerned with controlling the growth of expensive, ecologically damaging, and impersonal resorts, than shutting down these small businesses. Sincerely, Alison Sawatzky
heidi lameySun Valley, ID, USALiving in a resort town, I understand the complexities facing elected officials. However, this push to shut down bed and breakfast and vacation homes needs to be rethought. Every traveller comes to an area for a reason - limiting their experience (the experience they choose to have) - will only give them reason to look elsewhere.
Janis CapraroChino Hills, California
Elizabeth McDonaldLos Angeles, CA USA
Pete van GilluweThree Rivers, CAVacation rentals, either B&B type or managed homes or cottages are an important part of the island offerings. Not everyone wishes to stay in a hotel type accomodation, and potential visitors may opt to travel to a different destination if the B&B and vacation homes or cottages were not available in Maui or anywhere in the state of Hawaii.
AnonymousSan Francisco, CA
AnonymousHudson, ColoradoI am devastated that this is happening. I have had the best vacations in Maui while staying at a family-owned B+B. I can not afford your expensive hotels, and I am afraid that I will no longer be able to visit your beautiful State. I have been there many times, and have been a regular contributor to your economy by ordering items made in Hawaii. I can not continue to support your economy since you are no longer honoring my "economy."
Brandy McLawsTustin, California, USAMy family and I will most likely discontinue any travel to Hawaii if TVRs are not available.
Andrew H PhilbrickPrinceton NJMy family has visited Paia, Maui 5 times and we have never stayed in a hotel. If we can not get a rental we will not return.
AnonymousCalgary, Alberta, CanadaMy family of five and I have vacationed in Maui 10 of the last 14 years. We have stayed in hotels only twice. We choose private vacation rentals, mostly Puamana, because we get to enjoy the comforts of home. We can also fit all five of us in one condo whereas we need to rent two hotel rooms which is much more expensive. I think if maui restricts us from renting private vacation rentals we will probably take our vacations somewhere else. This would be sad for our whole family.
