| 3301 | Marilyn Couture | Sequim, WA USA | Am in favor of regulated vacation rentals, particularly owner occupied property. |
| 3302 | Robin W. Mulder | Klamath Falls, OR US | "Disappointed" is an understatement! I travel extensively for my job. The last place I want to stay when on vacation is at a hotel!! |
| 3303 | Phillip Beck | Lawton, OK, USA | Using vacation rentals vice the hotel/condo route are the way my family and I truly experience the environment of the local area. Please don't take away this option for me in Maui because I will have to go somewhere else where I'll be able to rent other people's heart and soul investment in their personal property.
Phillip Beck |
| 3304 | michael thompson | Vail, CO | I don't enjoy a hotel stay. As I live in a Mountain Resort town, I think this will greatly impact my decision to return to maui. Too Bad. My $ will go to another island where I can have a more private experience. |
| 3305 | Nicki Theis | Prior Lake, MN USA | Banning Maui Rentals is wrong! |
| 3306 | John Pfeiffer | Camas, WA | Very disappointing. Will look for other vacation friendly area's to stay and spend our money. |
| 3307 | Ashlee Garnett | Burnsville, MN, USA | |
| 3308 | Anonymous | Prior lake, MN, USA | As a visitor there I enjoyed that option and feel it is just a way to get hotels to make more money. |

| 3316 | Robert and Ila Wist | Phoenix, Arizona USA | Molokai is unique as there is no central business zoned area. Also The economy of Molokai would be further harmed by these restrictions.
Over the last ten years my wife and I have vistied Molokai anually and have grown to love the people and their island. We take a personal intrest in the welfare of Molokai. In this difficult time please refrain from imposing this economic restriction.
Thank you for your kind attention to this matter. |
| 3317 | Danny Gusukuma | Coconut Creek, FL, USA | I was born and raised on Maui and now am raising a family of my own on the mainland. Unlike more commercialized hotels and resorts, staying in Bed & Breakfast and Vacation Rental Homes allow me to show my wife and kids what Hawaii really is like. It is sad that Maui county is trying to stamp out some of the island Aloha that visitors only get to experience by staying in the more intimate settings that B&B's and Vacation Rentals offer. |
| 3318 | Michelle Burke | Parma, OH, USA | There are many people who eant to experience the real island of Maui...not a cookie cutter, luxurious resort put up for those with little sense of adventure. Many people actually travel to learn more about the people. culture, and history of their destination...not just for a getaway in a beautiful destination...that's just a bonus. |
| 3319 | David Patterson | Canada | |
| 3320 | David Patterson | Alaska | As a long time visitor to maui, this action makes little sense economically or ethically. When there are so many issues to address about the planning and permitting process on Maui it seems like the county is wasting its time attacking small business while big business has been buying its way out of permitting conflicts for years. For example Sebu got its way with the Maui Prince property by spreading money where it was needed and the residents of maui lost out. When they tried the same in Alaska they got nowhere and are now gone. Good riddance. Maui county comes out looking like a bully. The right thing to do is help the small businessman who pays taxes and serves the interest of the Maui economy and the visitor industry. The law is the law as the mayor said, but when the law becomes outdated, uninforceable and useless it is time to change it. Get with it Maui County. I don't think that the county politicians were hired on a "
beat up the little guy" platform. Show a little courage and serve the public interest. |

| 3323 | Anonymous | Hanska MN. USA | I think a ban on vacation rental homes is another form of corporations and fat-greedy-corrupt lawmakers slaying the freedoms that many people have fought for. When I get my measly vacation from the company "I" make rich, I'd like to use it the way I want to! All I need is another form of corrupt corporate influence telling me how to enjoy life on Earth. Stick it up your ass corporate America!! Let the small "people loving " bussiness thrive. I would rather enjoy staying at a vacation rental or bed and breakfast, then having corporate policy and products shoved in my face. At least I know the smaller bussinessman is not going to slam me with greedy boardroom "service" scams! |

| 3328 | Carolyn Samit | Alameda, California | B&B's and vacation rentals ARE permitted world-wide. Why the county of Maui would forfeit the wonderful amenities and the ambiance that is Hawaii, not to mention loss of tourism by closing down these businesses is ludicrous. Surely whatever differences the county and the vacation rental owners have can be worked out. We do live in a democratic society.

| 3329 | Tamara Cardoza | Oregon | We absolutely loved staying in a cottage in Paia and would never consider staying in a condo in the "tourist" part of Maui. We may have to consider vacationing somewhere else now. Please bring back the cottages and the option for those of us who prefer a more ecological experience. |
| 3330 | Loretta Brenner | Corvallis, OR | Please allow family and small business owners the right to run Bed and Breakfasts and Vacation Rental Homes so visitors can experience the true flavor, beauty, and spirit of Maui. |
| 3331 | Anonymous | Australia | I have only ever stayed in B & B on my vacations on Maui. Hotels are the same the world over, but B & B on Maui allow me to experience the local atmosphere. If my only choice in the future is hotels and commercial accommodation, I will holiday elsewhere. |
| 3332 | V Plant | Eagan MN | |
| 3333 | Anonymous | Kailua, HI | I live in washington adn am planning a wedding in maui, which is my home as well as many of my family members live there. This bill would make it extremely difficult for me to pursue my dream wedding there with all the road blocks that are being put. in other words I love the islands and people are losing jobs due to this. I will be limited to where I can have my wedding. |
| 3334 | Erin Corrigan | USA | Hello,
I am writing about the situation regarding non-hotel accommodations in Maui County. I really enjoy staying at privately-owned vacation rentals in Hawaii, especially on Molokai. If it was necessary to stay at a hotel on Molokai, I would not enjoy my stay nearly as much and might not visit as often. There are few places to stay on that island in particular, none are especially interesting, and I wouldn't want the island disturbed by more development for new hotels. It just makes sense for individuals to rent their homes via real estate agencies to short-term visitors like myself.
Please don't close down these small-scale, often family-run businesses! They are a great resource for non-package visitors who want to experience a bit of the "real" Hawaii.
Sincerely,
Erin Corrigan

| 3335 | Robin Nix | Jonesboro, AR, USA | I and my family have visited Maui five times in the past 10 years. It is by far our favorite vacation destination. Four of those five times, we have stayed in private vacation rentals. (The one time that we stayed in a resort was our least favorite visit.) We have stayed in Keokea, Kula, Paia, Lahaina and Hana. We felt that because of this, we were able to experience the real Maui, that you don't get in a resort. If resorts, hotels and condos are our only choice, we will vacation closer to home. We have also visited Oahu and the BIg Island, (where we also stayed in private vacation rentals) and even though we enjoyed Maui more, we will go there, rather than stay in a hotel. |
| 3336 | Anonymous | Los Angeles | We want a choice in vacation rentals and small bed and breakfast places. We travel with pets and hotels don't allow pets, so we look to home owners to offer accommodations to us. We won't stay in hotels or condos, we'll just go to some other destination, so outlawing home owner rentals won't increase stays in condos and hotels. |

| 3341 | ray kostyack | westfield, nj usa | I have been to Maui 4 times over 10 years and would not be interested in staying in a hotel. Why travel that distance if the hotel experience is the same as in the Carribean? Staying in the northshore neighborhoods, along with locals, makes Maui different. |
| 3342 | Laura Milburn | Santa Cruz, Ca, USA | We love staying in vacation homes/rental when we come. We like meeting families that live on the island, and have a deep respect for the hawaiian people and culture. We hope one day to be a part of that community and live there ourselves. We have many friends on the islands as well. Staying in a hotel with our family of 4 would be way out of budget as well as boring, as that's not the vacation experience we've come to expect when visiting the islands. PLEASE stop this and bring back the vacation rentals!
It's sad to see some ruin this for all. And worse to see elected officials not keeping their word.

| 3343 | Noni Mildenberger | Vancouver, B.C. , Canada | My family loves Maui, not hotels. Hotels are the same everywhere, but residents of Maui can offer unique accommodations, like rental cottages in a garden. I spend money on a Maui vacation like any other tourist, but won't be visiting Maui again if forced to stay in hotel zones. There are many other places in the world to go. |
| 3344 | Joe Mildenberger | Richmond, BC, Canada | My family and I had one of our best vacations ever in March, 2007, when we stayed in a lovely little cottage
in a quiet, residential neighbourhood just outside of Paia. However, we will definitely not return to beautiful Maui if the only options for accommodations are in "hotel strips" like Kihei. |
| 3345 | Clare Mildenberger | Vancouver, Canada | My trip to Maui was amazing and I will never forget it. I had hoped to return but I definitely will not if the only option is one of those awful, giant hotel complexes |
| 3346 | George Morris | Tennessee, USA | America is based on free enterprise. Not only are you limiting our choices and "flavor" of accommodation choice and "Aloha" experience, but this legislation also creates a bitter taste for where Maui is headed. I have been to numerous countries and have always enjoyed the natural and authentic ambiance of B&B's, as well as rental cottage experiences. Maui has been a great love of mine for years, in large , due to the fact that I have become a part, for even a short time, the true and honest aloha spirit. It is sad that your local government is encroaching upon the honest and sincere efforts of your people to not only offer their guests a wonderful experience and taste of Maui's spirit, but you are also altering the dreams and efforts that they put forth to make an honest living the American way. |

| 3348 | susan and steven lash | indiana` | We are writing in support of keeping legitmate B&B's and vacation rentals in business.
In the past six years we have visited Maui 10 times and always look for these kind of places to stay.
If these businesses are shut down, that will impact our decisions to come and stay.
Car rentals, restaurants, cleaning staff, venders of all kinds, stores of all types will not recive our income and so much more are the trickle down affects of money not being spent.
We are not resort kind of people and so this type of accomodations are perfect and affordable.
I know we are not alone in this.
Thank you,
Susan and Steven Lash |
| 3349 | Mary Wilson | Brandon, Texas | Im opposed to the Maui Rental vacation homes restriction. It will affect the way I plan my future vacations with Maui. Perhaps I, like many other folks wil not be going there because we dont want to stay in the business zoned area. We like staying in out of the way places and away from the commercial end. Please reconsider the outcome as it may be a deciding point as to where we go for vacation in the future.
Thank you |
