As voters in Massachusetts and your constituents and neighbors, we believe Barack Obama is the best candidate for President in 2008.
Obama has expanded the Democratic electorate in every primary or caucus held to date. His appeal among independent voters makes him a strong candidate for the general election. Obama is bringing a wave of young people into the political process that will give the Democratic party a huge boost for the future. Turn all of them away, disregard and discount their desire for change, and you discourage their future support.
We ask you in your role as unpledged superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention to publicly declare your support for Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.
We need this now more than ever. Health care, education, security, and economy are faltering, when the promises of American prosperity should hold them high. In the very streets of Washington, D.C., the poor and indigent huddle in the shadows of monumental opulence. These towering and very real challenges can only be effectively addressed by a true realignment of American politics - by a willingness on the part of the establishment to heed the will of the electorate and embrace change.
From every corner of our country we are hearing from citizens who for the first time have been roused to not only enthusiasm, but also involvement, by an inspiring, electrifying personality. In such a way does Barack Obama remind us of another leader who faced these odds and ultimately overcame them to renew America's place in a changing world and reassure the nation that anything is possible: John F. Kennedy. Ultimately that president was elected by a tidal wave of first-time voters who swept away the establishment opposition that did not understand his appeal or the significance of his capabilities.
Only seldom can a nation claim a son or daughter who carries the promise of uniting the vast assemblies of her citizenship, restoring faith in her leaders, and moving forward into a better world. Millions who have never believed before believe now that, Yes, We can.
Believe with us.
