Revise a rule requiring Massage Therapist business owners to include the word "Massage" in their trade names.
In accordance with Health Occupations Article §§3-5A-13, trade names used by massage therapist business owners (in the State of MD) must be pre-approved by the Board of Chiropractic and Massage Therapy Examiners. The Board's trade name application form goes on to state that "the words Massage, LMT or RMP MUST be included in the requested trade name" - a stipulation not specifically mentioned in the Article. This rule is especially harmful to massage therapist business owners who practice other disciplines or who employ practitioners of other disciplines. We would like to see this stipulation removed from the Board's trade name application, so that massage therapist business owners might enjoy the same rights as non-massage therapist business owners when it comes to naming their businesses.
