I truly believe in the fact that individuals can be responsible for their own actions. We should not be told we cannot enjoy something as traditional as fireworks. Sure, ground based devices are legal, but we should not be limited in our selection just because a few people are irresponsible. Currently people hide the "illegal" fireworks they use and this makes things more dangerous. If there were no fear of punishment for using them, people would likely use them in a safe manner consistently. Add to that the fact that Fireworks showrooms could them open up throughout Maryland offering the entire line of products, which would generate a lot of money in taxes to fund the state programs. More emphasis would be placed on safety and less concern with secrecy. Things to consider â

James Mylett, United States1 year ago Comments: I still don't understand why states like Maryland and Virginia only allow sparklers and ground-based fireworks. Every year at the end of June they set up loads or roadside stands and tents selling sparklers and cone and cylinder fountains, but anything that does not stay stationary on the ground or shoots into the air is illegal in Maryland. Still better than Massachusetts, which bans all Fireworks, including sparklers. But still, very limited in Maryland, I say Legalize all types of Fireworks, put reasonable restrictions on them, and 18+ only to buy aerial Fireworks.
