| 751 | Alexander McLean | Please bring back the face and soul of SBS |
| 752 | Mark Cottman-Fields | While I wholeheartedly support Mary Kostakidis, I recognise that SBS is a business, and on occasion may need to be run like one. However, in this case the SBS was out of line. |
| 753 | Harry Hall | |
| 754 | Adam Chennells | |
| 755 | Anonymous | Bring back the half hour news format without the ads and the sport. And the old weather display. |
| 756 | Libby Morris | Stan Grant the second worst thing that has happened to SBS news. The worst being the abolition of world sport and filling in the extra time with mindless chatter. I want informative news and I want Mary Kostakidis to be presenting it. |
| 757 | Richard Arnold | |
| 758 | John Roodenburg | |
| 759 | meni christofakis | maru is an integral part of SBS and stands for what SBS is about.
The path SBS is going to now will turn it into an australian channel 4.
The news is not worth watching now, and has no integrety
Stan grant is not necessary and an insult to mary
I am not happy with the direction of SBS |
| 760 | Samuel Terry | Mary has a grace and charm that is sadly missed. Her sophistication was iconic for SBS. |
| 761 | Judy Rollin | I will no longer be watching your excellent news service.... bring back Mary |
| 762 | susan kleven | |
| 763 | Michael Dover | I have pretty much stopped watching SBS. It was once a major part of my life, particularly the original half hour news format with Mary K. I now get my world news from The Guardian and the BBC and other on-line services. |
| 764 | Cynthia Byrne | Mary usually gets it right. From her stand on the Olympic Games to the unpleasantness and annoyance of ads in the middle of programmes. She understands what SBS should be standing for. |
| 765 | Dr Belinda Nemec | Kostakidis is one of the few to stand up against the degradation and dumbing-down of SBS, which has been continuing for several years now. |
| 766 | Peter C. | SBS has sold its soul.
Your stand is admirable Mary. Don't waver for a moment because your cause is right and I believe your persistence will be rewarded. You have been an exemplary spokesperson have done much to inspire greater ethnic representation. Where would we be without you Mary? XOXO |
| 767 | Benjamin Tancred | |
| 768 | John Nottle | SBS used to be a highly intelligent, culturally sophisiticated television station which broadcast content that presented a world view other than the Anglocentric one presented by the ABC and commercial stations. It is, and will be more so, a huge cultural and intellectual tragedy if SBS continues along its current downward path.
Australia does not need a poor reflection of the ABC or the commercial networks but desperately does need an individual, intelligent alternative viewing choice.
I am also very disappointed in SBS's treatment of Mary Kostakidis. Her urbane, charming, CLEARLY ENUNCIATED(!), intelligent and mature presentation style is sorely missed. I rarely watch SBS news since she has departed the news desk. I sincerely hope this situation will be resolved as soon as possible. And Mary will be returned to her rightful role as chief AND sole presenter. |
| 769 | Linda Stack-Hawkley | Three great things about the FORMER SBS news: Mary, concise half-hour format and no sports. Now it's been stretched for no reason, corrupted with boring interviews, interrupted by ads, polluted with sport and completely degraded by the leaving of Mary (and who can blame her!) I've left too. |
| 770 | tony | I think that SBS is being groomed to be a commercial channel. This will mean rock, stupid commercials, and Big Brother type so called entertainment.
How can this be allowed to happen. ?
What is the govenment doing ?
Is it against the law to alter the charter.
Are the people that enjoy ethnic current affairs going to miss out to a pile of junk for the lowest common denominator " |
| 771 | Tim O'Riordan | I thought an hour of SBS news would be a wonderful idea BUT the amount of ads led me to turn to other channels and not to come back (it was also obvious that Mary & Stan were not getting on). |
| 772 | Sean Wilson | The purpuose of SBS is not to be commercial, it is to provide quality, multicultural brodcasting. In particular, SBS was the only TV station to provide adequate coverege of world news. To water-down the news is a major disservice to the community. |
| 773 | Vero edwards | She is fantastic and SBS cannot afford to let her go. |
| 774 | Hani Tayeh | |
| 775 | David Morris | GET RID OF THOSE IN-PROGRAM COMMERCIALS IMMEDIATELY. SBS IS NOT A COMMERCIAL STATION, AND I REFUSE TO STAND BY AND LET IT BECOME COMMERCIALIZED. Shaun Brown is a moron, he should be sacked for the addition of in-program commercials.
I want Mary Kostakidis back, She clearly has the viewers interests at heart. |
| 776 | Geoffrey Bradshaw | I fear SBS is really losing its way. |
| 777 | Anonymous | I fully support Mary Kostakidis' walk out. I am a regular watcher of SBS news and am perturbed at the subtle "dumbing down" of news reports. Accessibility is one thing but treating viewers like uneducated fools is insulting. Bring back Mary and the quality news programming SBS was applauded for. |
| 778 | Aimee Falzon | |
| 779 | Lasse Noren | Bring intelligence back to SBS. |
| 780 | Josef and Elizabeth Franek | We support Mary in her stand, and condemn the SBS board of directors and management for driving SBS towards commercialism and chasing ratings.
Australia is a relatively rich country, and can afford two top quality, taxpayer funded TV channels without advertisements and commercial sponsorships. SBS board and management should drive this message to the government on behalf of all aussies who want to extend their cultural horizon beyond what is offered by commercial TV stations. |
| 781 | Tane | Just terrible...I thought that SBS was our last bastian of culture in Australian TV. |
| 782 | Anonymous | I am apalled at the new look SBS news, which is more adds than substance. I also miss the sports news |
| 783 | jesse till | |
| 784 | Katy Osborne | SBS news is heading down the direction of the news on the commercial networks: 'serious, respectable' male newsreader flanked by young and pretty female newsreader who does the 'soft' stories. It's sexist rubbish and its such a shame - for so long SBS news has demonstrated high standards that resist this nonsense. |
| 785 | Tina Bridge | All the claims that advertising would revive the program list appear to have come to nothing - the variety of programming has significantly reduced & most of what is being shown are repeats. The standard of news has been declining, with a notable increase in the token sloganisms that are used by the commercial stations. Stan should join George Negus & move to 60 Minutes, as that is obviously the level that their loaded & pushy interview techniques are based on! And oddly enough the program is still filled with sports, NOT news.
There is no justification for advertising, regardless of the claims from the patronising email I received from management some time ago (which appeared like a standard response rather than addressing any of the issues I raised, with supporting studies reflecting peoples dislike of advertising). It is great to see that someone like Mary has the gumption to make a stand against the bastardisation of what was once a fantastic station, who now shows absolutely no regard any longer for its audience. |
| 786 | Max Stark | I didn't mind the between show ads, SBS should raise a bit of cash where possible, but to subject the loyal viewers to in program breaks is not on. The thin end of the commercial wedge has got thicker. Soon SBS could become a million dollar deal with back to back ads and infotainment and a megadollar CEO. I support the Kostakidis stand, get her back ASAP. |
| 787 | Mike Vallis | SBS is shit. I now switch the remote like all other commercials. |
| 788 | Ewan Cameron | |
| 789 | Kirra | She has been a true professional and a genuine leader in journalism, ethics and all things associated with positive/honest representations of issues and individuals, as well as embodying acceptance and understanding.
A gem! |
| 790 | Phillip Bird | Mary K's walkout is symbolic of the resistance that the originators of SBS and its charter must be feeling towards the imposition of commercial TV's ratings-driven standards.
The levels of excellence in news presentation, opening Australian viewers' minds to world concerns, established by the likes of George Donikian, Mary Kostakidis, and colleagues are seriously under threat.
(As if a cultural icon such as SBS could learn anything from the way commercial TV operates !)
Also..it is part of the current government's attack on multiculturalism, which it sees as a threat, rather than an enrichment of Australian society.
Bravo Mary, and chin up to her colleagues who worked so hard. Our love always ! |
| 791 | Dr Claudia Prestel | Keep the standards of the past and stop the commercialisation of the one and only station worthwhile watching in Australia. |
| 792 | Lesley McKay | Please consider the future of this country and stop sacrificing good people for the sake of commerce.....in the long run the bowing to money leads to an incredible downhill slide in standards. |
| 793 | Mila | |
| 794 | Jason | Mary we suuport you! |
| 795 | Frederic Jeanjean | |
| 796 | Anonymous | |
| 797 | Henri Jeanjean | SBS is drifting further away from what made it such an outstanding channel, innovative and open. It wants to blend and compete with the commercial garbage. What a let down. The management should be sacked. Mary for CEO! |
| 798 | Melissa Lang | |
| 799 | Michael Walsh | |
