George BakouropoulosExcessive commercialism is , in my opinion, in danger of ruining this planet. The sooner we make better use of scarce resources via more efficient public funded enterprises and all minorities be given equal respect with the dominant local (or international?) culture, the better off life in general will be. Surely the greed of neo-conservatives like that of Rupert("thanks for the mammary") Murdoch and his famous (or infamous?) anti-public media bias has done enough damage....the current mess in Iraq is just one example. Mary , I feel, represents or advocates a more enlightened approach to media in general and to public media in particular. The way she's being treated by the current SBS "management" is identical to that shown by the ABC"management" towards Masters and his biography of the "red neck" Jones (Howards "mate"?)....ie. disgracefull!
jelena bogdanovicI noticed that Mary was missing as soon as you changed the format and was not impressed. I was asking myself 'Where is she"? I couldn't pay attention to the news. Anyway, why did you do it? Why be like all the rest? You spent years building your own image which you are now dismantling. There's nothing wrong with Stan Grant and the other news readers, but Mary is an SBS icon, why lose that?

Margot FosterMary's authority, dignity and compassion were all evident in the way she presented World News. Her departure in these circumstances is a squandered unique talent . Mary's presentation set this network apart from others. What a waste.
diana schumacherwhat a bloody shame!
Ian OxenfordSBS has gone downhill, too commercial & glitzy. Stan Grant is too aggressive & does not fit the SBS atmosphere. Restore Mary to her former prestigous position.
Tin Hta NuMary, as the country's leading newsreader should be restored to her former level, including editorial comment. Less commercial glamour on SBS please. If you need money why don't you ask the public the PBS in USA

John SuttonAnother example of the decay that has beset Australia under Howard.

roderick patrick hammondhands of our mary,The best news reader in australia,if not the world.I had to bit my tounge and bear the adds, I will not tollarate what your doing with Mary.

Sharron DickmanWe fully lsupport Mary and would l;ike to see a reversalof the situation so she will be back with us again. Her contribution and professional presence is greatly missed.
Jerry DickmanStan has no presence whatsoever.

AnonymousGravitas and credibility gone. SBS news is finished for me.
Margaret Armstrong
Bree McKilliganIs SBS planning on having an audience in the future?
Alan LillMary is the best! SBS management is absolutely hopeless! Get Mary back on her terms!
S BoothAs a long time SBS news viewer, I have stopped tuning in to SBS news since the introduction of the one-hour format. I personally feel that SBS has "dumbed down" its news coverage. I also do not like the panel format, preferring the previous format with one newsreader. I believe there has been a drop in standards and, as a result, have switched to the ABC news coverage. I support Mary Kostakidis in her stand against SBS' continuing commericalisation.

Imelda JenningsSadly I am increasingly losing my faith, and my interest in SBS.

Thomas CoombsI agree with Mary The standard of sbs world news is going down the tubes. This has coincided with the inclusion of advertising material. In an idiotic attempt to maximize advertising revenue sbs management has forced sbs news into the moronic and puerile format found on every other free to air channel. How ghastly. mary has attempted to stand up to this, I hope she is supported by other members of sbs staff and the general public.
AnonymousSince coming to Australia in 93, I Have have regarded Mary Kostakidis as the most sensitive and respected journalist on TV. If, as reported, she has left SBS because of the introduction of intrusive advertising and interference with her editorial prerogatives, then I believe she has further proved her integrity. It will be no surprise to her that many of her viewers have and will abandon the SBS as well.
AnonymousTotally agree. I have admired Mary for a professionalism for years and I am sad about her treatment by SBS. The news will never be the same without her.
GRANT GALEAHow dare you do this to Mary Kostakidis SBS ? !!!! Clean up your act !!! Get rid of Stan Grant he should be on Seven doing crappy current affairs shows for the morons that watch them !!!! Mary is the reason i watch the SBS news . SBS ,you are losing the plot !!! Give us less commercials, less sport, and less wankers!! We can get them on NINE ,SEVEN and TEN !!! Bring back Mary Kostakidis...she is a national treasure , a woman of class and a diamond in a sea of dirt that is commercial television !!!! Angry, GG.
Violet RoumeliotisSBS Budget should be increased from the Commonwealth government and the Charter it was established for should be respected and implemented. The Australian public doen not want a commercialised and Americanised SBS. I support Mary Kostakidis' stand. There is no integrity in what the angloccentric Board of SBS is doing.
Kevin KorbStan Grant reads the news like he's been tranked up. The elimination of World Sports and the infotainment look and feel of the new World News are repulsive. I will neither support nor watch SBS until it is cleansed of its new Vandal managers.
Anonymous30 minutes world news was concise, comprehensive and cohesive ... the 3 C's. Non interruption of a program was the 'gold standard' , but no more.
tasha mcleani really enjoyed mary and the quality of news delivered. sbs news was the only news station i watched because it actually contained news. as opposed to american celebrities and scary tactics. now i can barely watch it because of that loud mouth stan doing interviews and cutting people off the whole way through. whats the point of interviewing some one if you're not going to let them talk. please bring mary back and deliver good quality, worldly news. thank you.

AnonymousSBS is an important opinion former and, as such, should not bow top commercial pressures
C WindsorMary is the best TV news presenter in the country and one of the best in the world. She has demonstrated her integriy by not standing for the blatant commercialisation of th public broadcaster SBS. When does a public broadcaster become a sad imitation of a crass commercial broadcaster - when adds destroy the intelligent TV
Meg StewartI have already sadly and greatly reduced my SBS watching time since the ads started interferring with documentaries etc. To further lower standards to the point where Mary Kostakidis has been treated poorly shows little respect for her skills aqnd experience, and for the general public as a whole.
AnonymousThe Foxtel style presentation and 'filler'' content of the SBS world news hour has turned me away from the program.
joanne mcneill
Caroline MaherFar too much advertising on SBS. profits are not the bottom line, information sharing by competent newsreaders such as Mary Kostakidis is far more important.
Claire WhiteGet rid of Stan Grant and commercials during the news. Bring back Mary Kostakidis and restore SBS standards.
Margrit Wendt
AnonymousI strongly support mary and also call for the end to commercial advertisements during programs including the news.
AnonymousI was overseas when this event took place but that did not lessen the impact when I returned home. My wife and I are appalled at this further evidence of mediocrity becoming accepted in Australian media.
John Anderson
Geraldine GillenI love SBS, but not the growing number of commercial breaks. Mary K has always been one of the "faces of SBS" for me. I don't think she would make this stand lightly.
Rowan ManganI am saddened by the absence of Mary Kostakidis on the SBS news - but even more so by the slipping standards we have seen in the new format. SBS viewers will not stand for being patronised and fed fairy floss news. Please bring back the standards, and THEN bring back Mary!
