Sol SalbeI used to brag to my overseas friends about SBS and its high quality programming but not any more.

Vivienne PorzsoltSBS has been the one light in the long tunnel of darkness Australia is passing through. The departure of Mary Kostakidis is the bell tolling for SBS as a public broadcaster.
Steve BrookDoesn't Mary know that commerce is SACRED?
June FactorIt is time SBS had its own Friends group, to campaign for television channel to return to its original non-commercial status, and to defend the standards expected of a true public braodcaster.
Robert Haworthads will be the end of SBS--once the only original voice of Australian TV. I'd gladly pay a levy to have ad-free public broadcasters
Dr A M LiebholdThe strength of SBS was its people and lack of commercials. It has lost great people like Mary and the interruption of films and other good programs by advertising (eg the ED smut) makes serious viewing almost impossible. What are the priorities of a management that can't comprehend this?
Georgina Simmondswho makes these terrible decisions? It is so important and so brave of Mary to stand up for proper standards in broadcasting. She is a very experienced and able broadcaster. What a dreadful waste. SBS is so important in the culture of Australia.

Alice BeauchampHaving been most upset at the further moves to commercialisation of SBS, with intrusive Ads now interrupting even the main evening news;: it's dumbing down to expand over 1hr without any extra value added; the inexplicable increase in presenter numbers: the sidelining of the best newsreader bar none etc etc, now the final blow of Mary's total disappearance!!!!!! I shall now cease watching what was once my best news coverage, & hope & campaign that even a struggling ABC will never sink to this level
Angela MunroMary is an outstanding newsreader. the progressive undermining of the news presentation with the plastic Stan Grant, raising his eyebrows and tilting his head like a trained parrot (who doesn't undertsand what he's reading) is appalling. The quality of the news has been a major factor in keping SBS profile and niche: SBS is heading for oblivion/defunding if this ridiculous situation is not rectified.

Dr Vacy VlaznaI used to faithfully watch SBS news until it was extended to an hour and always admired Mary Kostakidis' grace and competence. I was really surprised by the Stan Grant 'takeover' and new format and now watch the ABC news.

Peter FraserWhat has happened to SBS news since it became a 60 minutes program is about the same as the standard of 60 minutes - lousy content, dumbing down, lots of fuzzy feelings and junking the content. Shame on what was once the premium news bulletin. When I watch it now i turn off the ads and turn off the show at 7pm. You have lost a lot of support.

Warren A. SapirIt is most upsetting to see a first class newsreader with great integrity treated so badly by the SBS management group.
Dave and Pauline DeakinWe both feel that SBS is on the road towards a boring commercial TV station. The whole point of a station such as SBS is that is (or was) different from anything else on Australian TV, and the commercialisation is the beginning of the sameness. It's just a matter of time before the advertisers start to, if subtly influence the programming, because they hold the purse strings.

Janet PowellMary has been the shining light for capable women, and it has been to the credit of SBS that they have kept her on air against the trend to youth and beauty - in women only of course! Now SBS has blotted its image - not Mary's. Let's have her back - and not as a side-kick!
julie copelandIt's tragic; greed has destroyed everything that made us love - & watch - SBS .

Paddy GarrittyThere is to much commercial media with a low standard or biased news reporting in favour of the conservitive and affleuent sector of our community who in the main are the sponsor of these ads
jepke goudsmitI'm very sorry to see Mary go. Shame SBS! Get rid of the advertising and the dancing to the tunes of the almighty dollar and narrow mercantile mind. Provide an alternative! I've been watching your programs less and less since the advertising started. Mary was one of the saving graces.

Peter MurphySBS is far too commercial to work for its public service role. I am shocked that a committed news presenter and journalist would feel compelled to protest as Mary Kostakidis has.

jean McLeanI agree that the continuing commercialisation of SBS makes watching increasingly depressing. If I want adds I can watch commercial tele and I dont .We are one of the richest countries per head of population in the world. We can afford add free SBS !

AnonymousI support Mary Kostakidis in her stand against SBS's continuing commercialisation and lowering of news standards.
Maria StratfordWhat on earth is SBS thinking... Mary is an absolute essential to the news every night and why the public watches SBS. She is polished, intelligent and well respected, in the industry as well as by the general public. Stan might be a nice guy but he certainly doesn't cut it as a journalist and doesn't have the respect that an experienced and polished journalist/news reader like Mary does. Eat humble pie, change the format BACK to a winning formula and return Mary to her place in the arena the public expect to see her!
Gareth Smith1st we got intrusive mind numbing advertising bang in the middle of programmes & now we have this disgusting ousting of Mary Kostakidis. Time to boycott SBS & let their advertisers know.

Charles AttardSHAME ON SBS ... DEFINITELY SBS STANDARDS HAVE BEEN ON THE SLIDE .. AND GETTING WORSE
Kevin MurrayWe don't want another commercial network. SBS should maintain and extend the standards that have given it such a good reputation.

AnonymousA national media treasure, and fantastic news reader and journalist. We cannot lose you from our airwaves, or from SBS, Mary. You are a crucial mentor to other women in the Australian media, and men for that matter.
