Name: Deirdre Lee on Jul 29, 2007Comments: My son, Joshua, has been in the martial arts class since January 2006. I have seen a noticable difference in his self confidence and overall behavior since beginning the class. Master Ponders is phenominal instructor able to meet his students needs right on their level. I don't want to see the fruits of his labor come to an end. The classes are truly a benefit to the community.Flag

Name: Tina Dempsey Jones on Jul 29, 2007Comments: My son has been attending the Ponders School of Martial Arts at William Beanes CC, since November 2004, when he was 5 years old. I was very excited to find such a high caliber program for children at a community center near my home instead of having to go outside of the county or the state. MNCPPC neeeds to re-evaluate canceling such a program , especially since it has had a positive impact on the lives of so many children and families.Flag

Name: ARRICA TILLMAN on Jul 29, 2007Comments: The community center is rarely being used except in the summer months for camps. The martial arts class has been the only program that has continued throughout the years. There are a few winter basketball tournaments, but there are no continous activties at this center. This center has been a central location for all the parents and children participating in the martial arts program. Responsible management should be able to talk and listen to all the parents involved when deciding on programs at the center.Flag

I (we) respectfully ask that serious consideration is given to continuing this course.Flag

Name: Kimberly K. Parker on Jul 29, 2007Comments: Master Ponders has been at WBCC for over 12 years and have been a part of the Tae Kwon Do community for over 40 years! My children have further developed in fine young boys under Master Ponders' tutelage. Master Ponders truly has a heart for all of the children and discontinuing his class would eradicate this component of stability in the children's lives. Thank you.Flag

Name: Junnette Mitchell on Jul 30, 2007Comments: My son Quincy has been in the program since September 2006. Although he is relatively new, Master Ponders has had such an impact on my son and has even impacted my son that is not enrolled. I am outraged that Park and Planning is trying to terminate his contract. And further, the staff at WBCC is so inept that the Director is saying that none of the parents have been paying for the class which I take offense to because I have paid for every session since Quincy has been enrolled.Flag

Name: Pamela-Marie Y. Thorn on Jul 30, 2007Comments: I am genuinely concerned about these classes being discontinued. These classes keep the children active and interested. In these days, we need to keep our kids active with things other than booty shaking, fast talking, and easy money making ideas. I travel from outside of PG County to bring my kids to these classes and I have done so based on the reputation of the instructor and recommendations by other parents. I have continued with the classes because I see a difference in my children. They remember what Master Ponders teachs them. Not only the martial arts but about respect and being careful in a world that doesn't always watch out for our kids.Flag

Name: Monica N. Sutton on Jul 30, 2007Comments: I am VERY concerned about the possibility of Master Ponder's class being cancelled. My child has only been in the class for 8 months, but in that short time he is more focused and outgoing, in school and at home. While Master Ponders expects the children in his class to learn, he is more concerned with how the children are doing academically. He expects to see report cards every quarter and rewards those who do well and encourages those who might not do as well, to try a little harder. To say that to lose Master Ponders would be a disservice is an extreme understatement.Flag

Name: Truth Omole on Jul 30, 2007Comments: Ponders School of Martial Arts is a wonderful experience for the children of Prince Georges County. I view anyone who attempts to disassemble this program as an enemy of positive development for the youth of Prince Georges County. Don't try to fix what isn't broken. MNCPPC needs to work on the issues (which seem to be minor) to assist someone as dedicated as Master Ponders. Instead, on a power trip, they have chosen the easy way out. Of course, forgetting that it's a service to the children of the community and that parents and children have devoted countless hours to this school (martial arts programs are NOT interchangeable) and lots of money into buying uniforms, equipment, etc. We will not go down without a fight. Anyone associated with the cancellation of this class should be terminated from any community service post.Flag

Name: Debra Jones on Jul 31, 2007Comments: Urgent ! Children need to learn and practice self discipline and concentration skills. Because of the LACK of classes that help our children with these most critical attributes , I ask that you reconsider keeping "Master Ponders @ William Beanes Comm. Center".Flag

It is a shame that we are allowing someone to stand in the way of ourchildrens future. I PRAY THAT PONDERS SOMA WILL LIVE ON. Help keep our young children off the streets.Flag

Name: Terrill Jones on Aug 17, 2007Comments: We've been told that the program is being canceled because of personnel issues. But when asked the issues are issues that can be resolved. So this is clearly a personal issue of the William Beanes staff. It's a shame that WBCC staff would put satisfying themselves and their egos before the children. SAVE THIS PROGRAM!Flag

HE IS ABOVE REPROACH AS IT PERTAINS TO MARTIAL ARTS, AND HE WOULD BE A TREMENDOUS LOSS TO ANY STUDENT THAT TOOK PART IN ANY OF HIS CLASSES. HE IS RESPECTED, LOVED, AND ADMIRED FOR EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE FOR THE COMMUNITY IN THE PAST 12 YEARS THAT HE'S BEEN AT WILLIAM BEANES COMMUNITY CENTER. PLEASE KEEP HIM THERE AND INVESTIGATE WHY CERTAIN "INDIVIDUALS" WHO HAVE THE SAY-SO TO KEEP HIM AT THE CENTER FOR THE CHILDREN. HE IS DEFINITELY A POSITIVE INFLUENCE FOR OUR CHILDREN TO HELP KEEP THEM OFF THE STREETS IN DOING SOMETHING POSITIVE. THANK YOU.Flag
