Comments: Making it impossible for someone to continue recieving SS simply because they fall in love and want to get married is terrible. She has the choice of getting married and losing her benefits or keeping her benefits and being unable to marry the one she loves. How fair is this

Comments: I am 25 years old and have Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome as well as seizures. If I lost my SSI and medicaid, I would never be able to survive. But I want so badly to be married. It isn't fair that on top of being sick (since the age of 12) I am not being punished by the government, saying I can't get married.

Comments: being disabled is hard enough. The ability to be a productive citizen is lost, as well as the ability to be an independent person. Why should the disabled also be doomed to a life of being alone. If a person receiving SSI should marry someone who is independently wealthy that would be one issue. But if they marry someone who makes less than a target amount. Benefits should not be altered or revoked.

Comments: I also am on SSI and am unable to get married. Without the small amount of money I get bills would be hard to manage. More importantly I would lose my medical coverage. I already have several years of medical I am paying on that came before I was approved. This alone will take me forever to pay off. I found a man that I love with all my heart. He accepts me as I am disabilties included. We have wanted to marry for 3 years now. My youngest son wants to be adopted by him but state laws make this harder since we are not married. It is not fair to keep people on SSI/SSD from marring. The government should not have the right to destroy famlies.

Comments: Doesn't seem fair to lose my SSI if I were to get married, after all, most households these days are both partners working...and I paid my taxes when I was able to work...didn't I pay for what I am receiving now

Comments: I'm in a bit of the same unfortunate boat. My fiancee receives SSI and I'm on the verge of gaining SSD. They tell us that adding our two payments together would exceed the amount and she would then lose practically all of her SSI payment and we'd be stuck with just my singular SSD. It sucks. She was disabled far before she could ever work (accident at 17), will never be able to work, and therefore couldn't receive SSD which they'd not be able to reduce. It'd be like forcing one of an employed couple that wanted to get married to quit their job. This is isane! Our "good" (I use the term very sarcastically here) constantly promotes how he's championing marriage but this actually kills people from getting married! We're talking with every lawyer possible to see what can be done. It's ridiculous they make people lose half their income to get married. Morality There's nothing saintly or moral about it. It's cruel and heartless.

Comments: I too deal with not getting my check half the time because I am married and it is wrong! Especially when there are lazy people out there that don't need it and draw it why can't they just do away with theirs so people like me and your wife, or fiance can have our benefits. Thanks to the governor of Missouri I recently lost my medical coverage as well, what is the world coming to

Comments: I met the man of my dreams just over 3 years ago. We've been waiting that long to get married. I'm on SSI, and we called to find out what would happen if we married. They would knock $1 off of my check for every $2 he made. This would eliminate my SSI. Living in Missouri, it's bad enough I get no medical care. I can barely even live on what I have now. I need clothes, but cannot afford any. The last 2 weeks of the month, I barely eat beacuse I must spend too much money on a special diet. This is wholly unfair. Not only do we have to wait who knows how many more years until he finishes school and gets a good enough job to support us both to get married, but the government expects him to support me. That isn't right. But this is our government for you. Uncaring, corrupt and greedy to the core. I want so badly to marry my Fiance, but it will not be happening any time soon. He can barely afford to support himself, let alone both of us.

Comments: I do not think it is fair to lose your SSI if you get married. I am a mother of 4 and want to get married and can not afford to lose my SSI and medicaid. We would never be able to make it! The rules and law needs to change. I want to get married and not worry about him paying for my health care bills and he can not afford health insurance. He has a back disease that will get worse with age and SSI denied him, despite the fact the Doctors told him he will end up wheel chair bound. He struggles just to get a job cause of his medical condition. I do not understand the goverment and the rules!
