Marine Park Civic represents the community as a whole. We believe that zoning regulations are essential for protecting the rights of home owners and businesses, and ensure a high quality of life for all Marine Park residents. Unfortunately, these zoning regulations are being challenged by a facility located at 2899 Nostrand Ave. The facility wants to incorporate a high school and college on its premises, and is seeking huge variances to enlarge its space from 5,440 sq. ft. to 27,200 sq. ft. To accomplish this goal they want to convert a (1) one story building into a (5) five story building, build up to property lines, have on-site parking regulations waived, and increase its certificate of occupancy to 940 people. The neighbors are opposed to these variances for many reasons: the risk of damage to their homes and sewers due to pile driving, possible diminished resale value of their homes, traffic congestion, noise levels, and air pollution, loss of sunlight/ventilation, and infringement on privacy. This concerns us all, because if it is allowed to happen in one part of Marine Park it could happen in another. We will send these petitions to our local elected officials, CB18, and the Board of Standards and Appeals. Keep informed through our website (www.marineparkcivic.com) or face book page.

The Marine Park Civic Association is currently gathering documentation regarding the proposed construction variances at 2899 Nostrand Avenue. We are preparing a comprehensive presentation for the upcoming meeting with the Board of Standards and Appeals to demonstrate how this project contradicts our established zoning protections. Please continue to monitor our website for updates on the formal hearing schedule.

No parking? Where are 900 people going to put their cars? My street is already packed at night. This is not the right place for this school.

5 stories? Are they kidding? That will block all the light and make the street feel like a tunnel. We moved here to get away from that city mess.

They want to turn a small building into a giant skyscraper in the middle of our houses. Keep Marine Park residential. Keep the zoning laws.

I have lived here 30 years and i fear for my foundation. pile driving that close to our homes is a recipe for disaster. stop this project now!

This is totally insane. Nostrand is already a nightmare to drive on and adding 900 people plus a massive building is going to ruin the whole block. Leave our neighborhood alone.
