Mariano Rivera is, without a doubt, one of the greatest players to ever take the mound in the great sport of baseball. The man will be forever remembered as THE player to give the ball to in a must save situation, so why not give him the honor of doing just the opposite of that; starting. The All Star game is the perfect avenue to put the biggest names in the sport in the spot light and give them one last 'thank you' from all the fans and players. As this is Mariano's last trip around the league, why not offer him the spotlight offered to such other luminaries as Cal Ripken, Jr., Ozzie Smith, Chipper Jones, and Willie Mays, to name but a few. Prior to injuring his knee last year, he had stated multiple times that his goal was to play one game in the outfield before he called it a career. I think it's safe to say that the Yankees will most assuredly not let that happen now, so why not honor him in another way? The man's a legend, and let's let him have that defining All Star Moment.
